SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing all engineering and facilities functions at PUBLIC, including preventive maintenance, repairs, building systems management, safety compliance, project coordination, and team supervision. This role ensures the hotel's physical infrastructure operates efficiently and safely while supporting operational leadership through strategic facilities and engineering initiatives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Be an ambassador for PUBLIC by meeting and exceeding PUBLIC core objectives and values. Manage daily engineering operations including preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and building systems management. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, including Cal/OSHA standards. Develop, implement, and maintain engineering policies, procedures, and preventive maintenance programs aligned with company standards. Partner with department leaders to support facilities-related needs, capital projects, and renovations. Supervise, train, and mentor the engineering team to promote safety, efficiency, and professional development. Oversee vendor and contractor services, including selection, scheduling, and performance management. Monitor and maintain all hotel systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, and fire/life safety equipment. Respond promptly to engineering emergencies to minimize operational disruptions. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and safety compliance for legal, insurance, and internal purposes. Ensure proper documentation and consistency in safety, maintenance, and compliance processes. Support workplace safety programs in coordination with leadership and safety committees. Prepare engineering reports, maintenance metrics, and property condition updates as required by leadership. Ensure compliance with all hotel policies and procedures at all levels. Perform all other responsibilities, tasks, and special projects as assigned by executive leadership.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs require. Maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical conduct at all times. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance programs, and safety compliance standards. Ability to collaborate effectively with leadership and employees at all levels. Proficiency in maintenance management software, Microsoft Office, and related tools. Familiarity with federal, state, and local building codes, safety regulations, and best practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods as required by daily activities. Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate tools, computers, and equipment. Ability to attend meetings and move throughout the property as needed. Ability to occasionally lift materials, tools, or supplies up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and work in confined spaces as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, hotel engineering, or building systems maintenance, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Proven experience managing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and other building systems. Demonstrated knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, safety compliance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, Cal/OSHA, local building codes). Experience overseeing vendor contracts, service agreements, and capital improvement projects. Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills. Prior experience in a 24-hour operational environment, such as hotels or large facilities, is highly desirable.
