Mining Exchange Hotel Chief Engineer About The Opportunity Join the leadership team at The Mining Exchange Hotel , a beautifully restored lifestyle luxury hotel in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs . Blending historic charm with modern sophistication, The Mining Exchange Hotel delivers an elevated guest experience through exceptional service, thoughtful design, and operational excellence. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Engineer to lead all aspects of hotel engineering, maintenance, and property operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who is passionate about preserving the integrity of a luxury property while ensuring all building systems, equipment, and facilities operate at the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and guest satisfaction. As Chief Engineer, you will oversee the day-to-day maintenance and preventative care of the hotel's physical assets, including guest rooms, public spaces, mechanical systems, life safety equipment, and back-of-house operations. You will lead and develop the engineering team, manage vendor relationships, ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and collaborate closely with hotel leadership to support operational goals and capital improvement initiatives. About The Hotel Mining Exchange Hotel was built in 1902 as a stock exchange for local mining companies, The Mining Exchange Hotel & Spa offers a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. Our elegant, yet casual public spaces and guestrooms are all newly renovated. Job Role As a key member of the hotel's leadership team, the Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the hotel's physical assets, mechanical systems, and infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards of luxury hospitality. This role oversees preventive maintenance programs, life safety compliance, capital improvement planning, and engineering team leadership to deliver an exceptional guest experience while preserving the integrity and sophistication of one of Colorado Springs' most iconic historic properties. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with strong technical expertise, operational discipline, and a passion for maintaining luxury environments where every detail matters. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership & Team Development Lead, recruit, train, coach, and develop the engineering team to ensure operational excellence and professional growth Establish clear performance expectations and accountability standards Conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and compensation recommendations in alignment with company policies Create and manage department schedules to ensure appropriate coverage across all shifts Property Maintenance & Asset Protection Oversee the implementation and execution of all preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and hotel systems Ensure all building systems operate efficiently, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, kitchen equipment, boilers, elevators, and mechanical infrastructure Maintain the property in first-class condition consistent with luxury lifestyle hotel standards Prioritize and oversee service requests to ensure timely completion and guest satisfaction Life Safety & Regulatory Compliance Monitor, inspect, and test all life safety systems to ensure 100% operational readiness Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes, fire safety regulations, and corporate standards Maintain all required documentation, permits, inspection records, and certifications Technical Operations Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and structural issues Interpret blueprints, repair manuals, and technical specifications to diagnose and resolve system failures Oversee appliance repair, boiler operations, electrical systems maintenance, and building infrastructure performance Vendor & Contractor Management Coordinate third-party contractors for specialized repairs, renovations, and maintenance projects Monitor quality of work, project timelines, and vendor compliance with hotel standards and safety regulations Financial Management & Capital Planning Recommend departmental budgets and capital expenditure plans Manage engineering expenses within approved budget constraints Review purchase requests and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and utility cost savings Administrative Responsibilities Maintain engineering logs, schedules, maintenance records, and departmental documentation Assist with strategic planning and procedural improvements Support hotel operations through Manager-on-Duty coverage as assigned

$80,000 - $90,000 annually Requirements Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Certificate or degree in Building Maintenance, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or related field preferred Experience Minimum of 2 years of building maintenance leadership experience in hospitality, luxury residential, resort, or commercial environments Prior hotel engineering management experience strongly preferred Experience with engineering design Desired Qualifications & Traits Experience in historic or luxury property maintenance is highly desirable Able to develop, implement, and monitor programs that adhere to all appropriate regulations, including: Ergonomics, Emergency Response, Injury and Illness Prevention, and Hazard Communications Physical Requirements Able to lift up to 50 lbs Able to bend, stretch, and twist Able to sit or stand for long periods of time Able to climb multiple flights of stairs on daily basis and walk frequently Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boiler systems, and life safety systems Exceptional troubleshooting and critical-thinking abilities Proven leadership and team development experience Strong understanding of strategic planning, resource allocation, and budget management Ability to analyze operational challenges and implement effective solutions Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with leadership, guests, and team members Strong organizational and documentation skills Commitment to excellence, discretion, and service standards expected in a luxury lifestyle hotel settingBenefits:
