Project Manager, Lead Designer, or Engineering Manager Position Overview The Physical Security Designer is responsible for the design and documentation of integrated security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related low voltage infrastructure. This role supports project delivery by producing design drawings, specifications, and coordination efforts across multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with security system layouts, understands industry standards, and can contribute to design development from concept through construction. Key Responsibilities Design & Documentation Develop detailed design drawings for physical security systems using AutoCAD and or Revit Produce system layouts for access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and related infrastructure Create device placement plans, riser diagrams, conduit pathways, and cable schedules Assist in developing technical specifications and scope documentation Ensure designs meet client requirements, project goals, and applicable codes and standards Coordination & Collaboration Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, IT teams, and other stakeholders Support clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination efforts Participate in design meetings, project reviews, and internal QA processes Incorporate client feedback and revise designs as needed Technical Support Assist in system selection, equipment specification, and design standards Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent Provide support during construction phase, including RFIs and field coordination Stay current on emerging technologies and security platforms Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience in physical security design or low voltage systems Experience designing one or more systems such as access control, video surveillance, or intrusion detection Proficiency with AutoCAD; Revit experience is strongly preferred Understanding of structured cabling and low voltage infrastructure Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, IBC, TIA, BICSI, etc.) Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate design documentation Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications Experience working on commercial, healthcare, data center, or government projects Knowledge of major security platforms such as Lenel, Genetec, CCure, Milestone, or Avigilon Exposure to BIM workflows and coordination tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, ACC) BICSI certification (RCDD or Tech) or progress toward certification Basic understanding of networking concepts related to security systems Experience reviewing contractor submittals and shop drawings Soft Skills Strong communication and collaboration skills Problem-solving mindset with attention to technical detail Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Willingness to learn and grow within the security design field Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Estimator USA USD 100000
