Job Description
The Village of Arlington Heights, IL is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking professional to serve as its next Village Engineer. This essential leadership role oversees the Engineering Division within the Department of Public Works & Engineering, guiding major capital projects, ensuring sound engineering standards, and enhancing quality of life through safe, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure. As Village Engineer, you will lead a team of 10 professionals, oversee multimillion-dollar capital projects, and play a key role in shaping infrastructure priorities for a community of more than 77,000 residents. This role requires a collaborative, strategic leader with strong technical expertise in municipal engineering, a passion for mentoring staff, and the ability to balance day-to-day operations with long-term planning. Responsibilities include capital planning, roadway and utility improvements, private development review, traffic engineering, drainage analysis, construction oversight, and coordination with local, regional, state, and federal agencies. What You'll Do
- Provide strategic leadership for the Engineering Division, guiding infrastructure priorities and daily operations.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
- Oversee planning, design, and delivery of major infrastructure projects, including roadway, stormwater, and utility improvements.
- Manage the capital improvement program, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high standards. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- 10+ years of experience, with 5+ years of supervisory experience Salary & Benefits The full salary range for this role is $130,838-$189,714 DOQ.
