Job Description

Engineering Services Group, Inc. is a multi-disciplined Engineering firm, providing services in the fields of Consulting Engineering, Construction Management, Program Management and Land Development. We specialize in Traffic, Transportation and Civil Engineering, and work frequently with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Toll and Highway Authority, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and various counties and municipalities. Role Summary ESG seeks an experienced Civil Design Engineer (P.E.) to support transportation and local‑agency infrastructure projects across Sangamon County (Springfield). The role combines technical civil design , local agency oversight , and coordination with IDOT and federal partners . Ideal for a licensed engineer with strong judgment, IDOT familiarity, and the ability to manage design reviews, documentation, and project delivery. Core Responsibilities Local Agency Oversight — Review MFT, TBP, and federally funded project proposals; approve PS&E packages; ensure documentation and regulatory compliance. Civil Design Review — Evaluate roadway, drainage, grading, stormwater, and utility designs per IDOT BDE, AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA, and federal standards. Project Management — Coordinate with IDOT bureaus; support scoping, schedules, budgets, and QC; mentor junior staff; participate in public/stakeholder meetings. Compliance & Documentation — Ensure adherence to state statutes, IDOT policies, and federal requirements; maintain professional and technical competency. Minimum Qualifications Active Illinois P.E. (or ability to obtain within 6 months) 5+ years in civil/transportation engineering or infrastructure design Strong understanding of IDOT roadway, drainage, and documentation standards Proficiency interpreting plans, specs, and construction records Effective communication with agencies, consultants, and the public Preferred Qualifications Supervisory or team‑lead experience Deep knowledge of
IDOT BDE
procedures and local‑agency processes Experience coordinating with state/federal partners Strong technical writing skills Conditions of Employment Valid driver's license; district travel; background check; compliance with Revolving Door rules; Statement of Economic Interest filing. Compensation & Benefits $50-$70/hr.; 401K match; health/dental/vision; PTO/holidays; training support; advancement opportunities.
Pay:
$104,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
