(UA-VPAD-IUBLA) Department Information Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. Capital Projects (formerly named the University Architect's Office) provides architectural, interior design, construction management, engineering, and quality assurance and safety services for capital projects on all Indiana University campuses. Capital Projects staff oversees the creation or modification of any physical facility on any IU campus - whether it's a building, space within buildings, or campus grounds. Job Summary The Construction and Planning Senior Executive is an executive position that provides enterprise-wide leadership for project design and construction across all campuses. The position is a key member of the CPF Senior Leadership Team and is expected to represent and support the Vice President on initiatives, decisions, and communications impacting the unit. General Responsibilities Partners closely with senior academic and administrative leaders including Chancellors, Provosts, Deans, and Vice Presidents to ensure that the university's physical environment aligns with its academic mission, strategic priorities, and evolving operational needs. Oversees the development of architectural and engineering design standards, project scope finalization and procurement methodology, award and execution of contracts for design and construction, staff training, staff assignments, staff administration, and decision-support reporting that guide long-term capital investments and built-environment risk reduction. Provides oversight and coordination of all University building and landscape architectural design development which maintains the character of each campus while continuing to foster a "One IU" philosophy. Serves as primary liaison and Indiana University representative in the area of campus development and built-environment project development for and with each of the Indiana University campuses and with local municipality, community officials, and other stakeholders as appropriate. Works directly with CPF Planning, CPF Real Estate, IU Government Relations, IU Communications and Marketing, and Chancellor staff to develop and coordinate engagement strategies. Leads enterprise-level collaboration with Chancellors, Provosts, Deans, and other senior leaders to align design and execution scope with academic, research, and administrative priorities. Develops, implements, and maintains architectural and engineering standards in order to deliver consistent outcomes, cost and schedule optimization of project delivery, and continuously improve the project turn-over process to CPF Operations and the project sponsor. Represents the University on various internal and external matters involving capital projects and related initiatives. Works with senior University leadership, Board of Trustees, State, regional, and local government agencies on Indiana University related projects as assigned. Prepares and delivers presentations, reports and other appropriate data. Oversees the preparation of documents and forms for project approvals, coordinate responses to requests from legislative committees and service agencies for capital project related information. Develops and manages both fiscal and budgetary matters for assigned units and capital projects in compliance with university policy, and state and federal regulations. Ensures project compliance with local, state, and federal codes and standards. Acts in concert as a critical partner on the CPF Senior Leadership Team for all CPF Unit initiatives including staff engagement, Key Process Indicators and Risk Reduction Programs. Provides leadership and management for assigned staff, with accountability for employee engagement, performance management, and professional development. Performs other duties as assigned. QualificationsEDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree in facility design or construction or related field. Preferred Master's degree in facility design, construction, business management or related field.WORK EXPERIENCE
Required 10 years at a leadership level in campus design and construction for a large (greater than 500 buildings and 20 million gross square feet) university or hospital.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required Possesses a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University. Preferred Registered Architect Upon Date of Hire Professional Engineer Upon Date of Hire SKILLS Required Demonstrated expertise with critical software including eBuilder. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism and the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and various stakeholder groups. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires both sedentary work and the ability to move about, sometimes quickly, for long periods of time. This role also requires the ability to complete construction projects with precision and accuracy. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation. This position requires the ability and willingness to travel to multiple campuses as needed. This position may travel to various construction sites to ensure work deadlines are being met. Work Location Primarily located at the Bloomington Service Building. May work out of the Indianapolis office as well, depending upon projects and need.
