Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Transportation Drainage Engineer to lead the design and delivery of drainage and stormwater systems for complex transportation infrastructure projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring technical excellence across roadway, highway, and transit-related projects, while supporting project delivery teams and mentoring junior staff. Project Delivery & Technical Leadership Lead drainage design for transportation projects, including highways, roadways, and transit corridors Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for stormwater systems, culverts, storm sewers, and open channel flow Develop drainage reports, calculations, and construction plans in accordance with DOT and local agency requirements Ensure designs meet regulatory standards for stormwater management, erosion control, and water quality Design & Analysis Utilize industry-standard tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MicroStation/OpenRoads, and/or Civil 3D to develop drainage solutions Design stormwater management systems including detention/retention basins, conveyance systems, and outfalls Coordinate utility impacts, roadway design integration, and environmental constraints Support floodplain analysis, permitting, and mitigation strategies Project Coordination Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, structures, environmental, and planning groups Coordinate with DOTs, municipalities, and regulatory agencies Support project managers in scope development, budgeting, and scheduling Provide QA/QC review of drainage designs and technical deliverables Mentorship & Team Support Mentor junior engineers and technical staff in drainage design and analysis Provide technical guidance and promote best practices across project teams Contribute to internal standards and process improvements Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field Professional Engineer (PE) license required 8-15+ years of experience in transportation drainage or water resources engineering Strong experience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling for infrastructure projects Familiarity with DOT drainage design criteria and permitting requirements Proficiency in relevant design and modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MicroStation/OpenRoads, Civil 3D, etc.) Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Civil Engineer | San Antonio
