The Hotel Chief Engineer directs all facilities maintenance, engineering operations, and life-safety systems. They are responsible for keeping the physical property safe, comfortable, and efficient. Responsibilities include managing technical teams, executing preventive maintenance, ensuring compliance with local safety codes, and overseeing capital improvement projects.
ResponsibilitiesFacility Maintenance:
Oversee the repair and upkeep of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and life-safety systems.
Preventive Maintenance:
Implement and manage Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to reduce breakdowns and prolong asset life.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, and schedule engineering technicians. Assign daily work orders and evaluate team performance.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all building codes, brand standards, and OSHA regulations are strictly followed. Conduct routine safety audits and fire/life-safety inspections.
Budget & Vendor Management:
Monitor utility consumption and track department expenses. Review proposals and manage relationships with external contractors.
Guest Satisfaction:
Collaborate with Housekeeping and Front Desk teams to resolve room maintenance issues promptly.
QualificationsExperience:
Typically requires 3-5 years of progressive engineering or facilities management experience, ideally in the hospitality sector.
Technical Knowledge:
Working proficiency in commercial HVAC, high/low voltage electrical systems, plumbing, and building automation controls.
Certifications:
Certifications such as Certified Engineering Operations Executive (CEOE) through the AHLEI or
HVAC/EPA
certifications are highly preferred by employers.
Soft Skills:
Strong project management, team leadership, budgeting, and problem-solving abilities.
