Job Description
The Engineer in the Transmission, Driveline, and Gear Reducer Chief Engineering Teams will have some experience in executing powertrain programs. The chief engineering team is the fully accountable single point technical contact for transmission and driveline products. This includes all aspects of product delivery for current production, new product development, or advanced projects. (the "what" and the "when".)Responsibilities include reporting to the Chief Engineer and acting as the primary owner of the application matrix and interface between the CE group and vehicle team for requirements and delivery of the transmission and driveline products, including assembly plants.
Responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer (CE) in the execution of designated programsSupports the development of high-level Applications Matrix (working with the Design System Engineer) including all interface requirements for given programs for all variants and various vehicle platforms.
Ensures all applications fall within the design envelopes of the the transmission and driveline productsCoordinates packaging studies with each vehicle application to ensure all clearance requirements are met. Leads advanced vehicle adaptation designs studies and freezesNegotiates requirements with vehicle platforms based on product limitations and capabilitiesOwns the Transmission Technical Specifications and communicates application specific requirements to the team (i.e. max torque, NVH, FE, tire size, FD ratio selection, mass, etc.)Defines and tracks adherence to robust vehicle level and system level/sub-system functional objectivesLeads and coordinates the required Virtual Duty Cycle analysis(es) working with Propulsion Systems Virtual PT (Rotational) and Vehicle Loads / Durability team for Structural duty cycle (BCxx)Coordinates external interface(s) design changes that require platform approval. Perform TOS as required.
Develops, manages & communicates external design or assembly issues and change management.
Responsible for the review and approval of the Application Checklist for each CNCoordination of application specific design variants (TCMs, adaptive hardware, dampers, vents, LV & HV wire connections, bracket attachments, etc) including controls & calibration strategiesRepresents chief organization on vehicle assembly plant requirements & events (i.e. supports pilot builds, EOL test, VIN marking, build issues, etc.).Drives Layered Audits process across supplier plant(s) to ensure manufacturing / heat-treatment / assembly processes and control plan robustnessLeads Build Readiness tasks (instrumentation plan, dyno support)Develops Benchmarking Plan working closely with Assistant Chief Engineer on competitive productsCoordinates COE assessments of bulletins and engineering response to bulletins working closely with ACE (or CE)Coordinates data generation and approvals of AES/BES regulatory documentsUpdates and coordinates approvals of owner's manualsUpdates and coordinates approvals of CP, Compliance Report StandardsResponsibilities may also include monitor projects at each step of the development process, from intention milestone to serial life. This is a key leadership position, requiring ability to define problems early, and connect things that seem disconnected.
Support Strategy & Technical Roadmap with business inputs. Manage product complexity and product lifecycle plans.
Manage timing and readiness for the assigned propulsion system perimeter, ensuring consistency between System and Sub-System and the complete Application Plan; responsible for sub-system Budget, Timing & Cost, including :
Total product cost (TPC)ER D spendingED&D spendingCapital expenditure (CAPEX)Establishes and maintains program timing; manage VO cost savings programsLeads the PSDP milestone deliverables reviews and deck preparation and ensures first-time-right execution and presentation to senior managementMust ensure continuous alignment of scope and strategic business objective, and make recommendations to modify the program to enhance effectiveness toward business result and strategic intentProvides and reviews inputs for supplier contracts related to product, timing, and cost related itemsDrives together with purchasing and engineering team the source package and sourcing processInitiates product study bulletins to capture cost on core projects; establishes projects and funding for quality initiativesManages the core initiatives preparation and core studies response.
Works with the PRS engineering functions, Planning and VEMO to prepare ER D budget convergence for milestone approval.
Determine and coordinate the sharing of resources among functions and regionsWork with CE to ensure the team follows all applicable department and corporate standards, practices, and proceduresProvides guidance and direction to DREs and suppliers through resourcing, process or sourcing changes, and development using the appropriate change management systems
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related degree fieldA minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in product development design and release with a minimum of 1 or more years of propulsion systems experience or 1 or more years of program management experienceDemonstrated experience working with collaborative and global teamsUnderstanding of typical automotive product engineering, manufacturing, finance and quality processesAdvanced English language skills 90% (Read and Write).Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)Excellent work ethic, organization skills, and communication skillsGoes "above and beyond" alwaysAbility to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and uncertainty...
