Job Description
Job Summary:
The Technical Portfolio Manager (TPM) is responsible for the technical coordination of American Battery Solutions' ("ABS") portfolio of battery pack products and projects, including new product development, launch support, sustaining engineering, and post-launch program activity. TPM works cross-functionally with project stakeholders to ensure technical alignment across programs. This position provides technical input, coordination, and escalation support to Pack Leads for individual projects while maintaining a portfolio-level view of product execution, resource needs, risks, timing, deliverables, engineering changes, and sustaining engineering priorities. The TPM ensures that technical decisions, open issues, design changes, validation activities, manufacturing concerns, and customer requirements are coordinated across the ABS product portfolio in alignment with program timing, quality, cost, and launch objectives. The TPM is responsible for managing technical complexity across multiple programs, supporting issue resolution, driving alignment between Engineering and Program Management, and ensuring post-launch product activities are planned, tracked, and executed effectively.Responsibilities:
Coordinate technical activities across the ABS product and project portfolio, including new product development, launch support, and sustaining engineering programs. Provide technical program input and portfolio-level coordination support to Pack Engineering Leads working on individual customer and product programs. Work closely with Pack Leads, Program Managers, Launch Managers, and other cross-functional stakeholders to align technical deliverables and project milestones. Review portfolio-level bottlenecks with relevant functional management to identify mitigation plans, resolve constraints, and support project priority conflict escalations with leadership. Work with functional management to track adherence to approved headcount and utilization of cross-functional engineering resources for approved and planned projects and ensure adequate engineering resources are available. Manage cross project technical coordination of sustaining engineering activities, including post-launch product changes, customer concerns, production support issues, engineering changes, cost reduction initiatives, quality improvements, and continuous improvement actions. Drive read-across of key learnings, risks, technical issues, corrective actions, and customer or production concerns between programs, and verify follow-through of lessons learned at the functional department level. Support the development, communication, and execution of technical program plans, timing plans, deliverables, open issue lists, risk registers, and action trackers across the product portfolio. Identify, communicate, and escalate technical risks, timing concerns, resource constraints, design issues, validation gaps, manufacturing concerns, and customer-impacting issues. Coordinate portfolio-level visibility of engineering changes, product updates, field or production concerns, validation status, supplier-related technical issues, and customer-driven technical requests. Partner with Program Management to align engineering technical execution with project scope, timing, budget, resource plans, customer commitments, and phase delivery expectations across the portfolio. Assist in prioritizing engineering and sustaining activities across the portfolio based on customer impact, production risk, launch timing, technical complexity, cost, quality, and business priorities. Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to coordinate containment, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and implementation plans for product or process issues. Monitor technical dependencies across programs and identify opportunities to leverage common solutions, shared learnings, standard work, and improved processes across the product portfolio. Maintain disciplined documentation of technical decisions, open issues, action items, timing commitments, risks, and lessons learned. Adhere to federal and state regulations. Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures. Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Predictable and reliable attendance.Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in technical product development, program management, product engineering, systems engineering, or related engineering project execution. Experience with electrification, battery systems, energy storage systems, automotive product development, or complex electromechanical systems is highly desired. Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-functional technical activities across Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Validation, Hardware, Software, or Systems teams. Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting product development programs from concept through launch and post-launch sustaining engineering. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical priorities, open issues, risks, deliverables, and program dependencies across a portfolio of projects. Familiarity with product development processes, launch processes, change control, requirements management, issue tracking, risk management, and engineering release processes. Ability to understand technical topics related to battery packs, electromechanical systems, hardware, software, systems engineering, validation, manufacturing, and quality. Adept in troubleshooting methods, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and disciplined documentation of findings. Effective communicator capable of translating technical information into clear program-level status, risks, decisions, and actions for internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work effectively with Pack Leads, Program Managers, engineering teams, manufacturing teams, suppliers, customers, and leadership. Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and competing priorities. Self-motivated problem solver who pays attention to details and drives issues to closure. Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and support continuous improvement. Educated on common automotive, energy storage, quality, and industry standards preferred.
