Job Description
ENGINEERING MANAGER
We are a manufacturing company specializing in prototype battery-system production, testing services, and module/pack assembly. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a proven ability to build teams, establish engineering standards, and lead projects from concept through delivery. Job Summary:
As the Engineering Manager, you will be a hands-on leader who both manages the engineering team and directly contributes to design execution. You will partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and other cross-functional groups to deliver customer-focused solutions, setting expectations for engineering rigor, documentation, and speed. This role requires strong SolidWorks expertise and a willingness to own designs end-to-end—from concept and CAD through prototype builds, on-the-floor troubleshooting, and release to production—with a focus on safety, quality, cost, schedule, and manufacturability. Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of engineers responsible for CAD design and detailing in SolidWorks, while also serving as an individual contributor on priority programs. Own the mechanical design of battery modules/packs, fixtures, and related tooling from concept through release, including 3D models, drawings, and assemblies. Set priorities, allocate resources, and actively remove roadblocks to meet project scope, schedule, and budget targets. Provide day-to-day technical leadership:
perform and/or review CAD work, guide design decisions, and establish practical engineering standards. Partner with cross-functional teams (Product Development, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality) to translate customer requirements into robust, feasible designs and build plans. Lead design reviews; identify technical risk, drive corrective actions, and implement improvements to optimize performance, reliability, and manufacturability (DFM/DFA). Support prototype builds and production launches by being present on the floor as needed; troubleshoot issues, drive root-cause investigations, and implement containment and corrective actions. Ensure design documentation is accurate and complete, including drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering change orders (ECOs). Develop team capability through coaching, training, and performance management; foster accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Maintain awareness of industry trends and CAD/process improvements; recommend and implement new tools, methods, and standards as appropriate. Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and quality management system requirements throughout the design and release process. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment, including demonstrated team leadership (people leadership and/or technical leadership). Expert-level SolidWorks proficiency, with the ability to produce and review models, drawings, and assemblies independently. Strong knowledge of DFM/DFA principles, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and drawing best practices. Proven ability to take designs from concept to production release, including BOM creation/management and engineering change control (ECO/ECN). Comfort working in a prototype/production environment and supporting builds, test activity, and on-the-floor troubleshooting. Strong problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional partners. Experience with battery systems, energy storage, or related electromechanical products is preferred. Familiarity with quality management systems and relevant standards/regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) is a plus.
