Job Description

Director of Mechanical & Plumbing VDCPosition OverviewA leading mechanical contractor is looking to bring on a VDC Director for their Mechanical and Plumbing practice to deliver high-quality, constructible MEP models and coordinated design-to-construction workflows. This role is responsible for defining VDC strategy, establishing modeling standards and QA/QC processes, driving Revit-based MEP production excellence, and aligning virtual design efforts with project delivery, fabrication and field installation to improve schedule, cost and quality outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement the Mechanical & Plumbing VDC strategy, standards, templates and BIM execution plans across portfolios.

Oversee and mentor a multi-disciplinary VDC team of Revit/BIM modelers, coordinators and technicians; hire, coach and manage performance and professional development.

Provide technical leadership for Revit-based MEP modeling, family creation, system templates, and advanced modeling techniques (routing, fittings, hanger systems).Lead coordination and clash-detection workflows using Navisworks and federated models; resolve constructability issues with design teams, trade partners and field leadership.

Establish and enforce QA/QC procedures, model checklists, LOD/LOI requirements and sign-off processes to ensure accuracy and constructability.

Collaborate with project managers, design consultants, trade contractors and fabrication teams to integrate prefabrication, modularization and shop-drawing workflows.

Identify and deploy automation and productivity tools (Dynamo, scripting, BIM 360/Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit add-ins) to increase modeling efficiency and reduce rework.

Track VDC metrics (clash rates, RFIs, coordination hours, prefabrication yields) and report KPI-driven improvements to senior leadership and clients.

Manage VDC budgets, resource planning and workload allocation across projects; support proposals and project planning with VDC scope and cost estimates.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field; advanced degree preferred.10+ years of progressive experience in
MEP BIM/VDC
with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership or director-level capacity.

Deep expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems, including sizing, routing and constructability considerations for HVAC, hydronic, plumbing and fire protection systems.

Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP including families, templates, system creation, content management and model optimization.

Hands-on experience with coordination tools and workflows such as Navisworks, BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud; familiarity with clash detection and resolution processes.

Experience with automation tools (Dynamo, Python, Revit APIs) and fabrication software (Trimble/Autodesk Fabrication, MagiCAD) is strongly preferred.

Proven track record implementing VDC/BIM standards, QA/QC processes, BIM execution plans and delivering measurable project improvements.
