Job Description

About the Role We're looking for a motivated Entry-Level Lighting Engineer to join a dynamic and customer-focused lighting team. In this role, you'll take ownership of lighting projects from initial request through final completion—working directly with customers, designing solutions, and seeing your work come to life in the field. What You'll Do As a key contributor, you'll manage lighting projects end-to-end after initial customer contact is established.
Your responsibilities will include:
Build strong customer relationships by communicating via phone, email, and in person Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and align on customer needs Design lighting solutions using tools like AutoCAD and lighting design software Develop and present proposals including project scope, contracts, and cost estimates (including CIAC when applicable) Ensure accurate billing and project setup before design execution Track and document all customer interactions and project updates in project management systems Guide projects through their full lifecycle , ensuring consistent communication and a high-quality customer experience Prepare permit packages and coordinate key details such as outages, locates, and future infrastructure placement Manage project timelines , ensuring all milestones and target dates stay on track Drive efficient design decisions that minimize rework and support cost-effective project delivery What You Bring Exposure to engineering design tools such as AutoCAD or similar platforms Understanding of lighting, electrical, or utility design concepts Strong communication and interpersonal skills —you're comfortable working directly with customers Ability to balance fieldwork and office-based design tasks High attention to detail with a focus on organization and accountability Preferred Background Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field Experience with lighting design software (e.g., Design Light or similar) Internship or hands-on experience in lighting, electrical, or engineering support roles Why This Role Stands Out Own your projects early in your career Gain a unique mix of technical design + field experience Work directly with customers and see the impact of your work in real-world applications Build a strong foundation for long-term growth in engineering, utilities, or infrastructure design Work Environment This role offers a balanced mix of responsibilities: ~60% design and office-based work ~40% fieldwork and site visits Your schedule will flex based on project needs, keeping the work engaging and varied. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
