Description of Work Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date. Position is assigned to the Signing and Delineation Unit, Western region. This position serves as the lead engineer and a source of advanced technical expertise in the areas of signing and delineation plan preparations and practices. Responsibilities include developing, designing, or reviewing signing and pavement marking plans, specifications and quantity estimates for TIP, Design Build, POC construction projects, and Division requests in accordance with State and Federal design standards. Use design software for construction plans, sign designs and sign supports, and represent the unit in field investigations and meetings. This position is also responsible for contract scoping, negotiating, and reviewing of private engineering consultant work and ensures project submittals are accurate and complete as well as ensuring schedules are maintained. Most work is performed in an office environment with some travel and field visits required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range:
NC20 - $70,478 - $123,336 Management prefers applicants with the following: Working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and construction and maintenance methods Experience solving complex problems and working independently Experience in using NCDOT Standard specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings Experience using Open Roads Designer, MUTCD, and GuideSign Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Minimum Education and Experience Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience."
