Strategic Project Engineering Manager Kinston, NC (Open to NC or VA)
Salary:
$125,000 - $155,000 + bonus Must-Haves Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field 5+ years of engineering/project experience in industrial or manufacturing environments 2+ years of leadership experience (team development/management) Hands-on experience with equipment automation, robotics, or controls systems Proven track record managing multi-million dollar capital projects Strong project management and contract administration skills Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) Experience with construction/installation scheduling and vendor coordination Knowledge of engineering economics, codes, and standards Ability to travel up to 50% Overview We are seeking a Strategic Project Engineering Manager to lead high-impact automation initiatives within a fast-paced industrial environment. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking engineering leader passionate about technology, innovation, and automation —particularly within food or meat processing. You will partner cross-functionally to identify automation opportunities, develop scalable solutions, and drive projects from concept through execution. This is a highly visible role where you will influence strategy, optimize operations, and deliver cutting-edge engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities Lead end-to-end execution of automation and capital engineering projects Develop design concepts, specifications, and cost estimates Conduct feasibility and economic analyses to ensure project viability Define project scope, prepare RFPs , and evaluate vendor proposals Manage vendors, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful delivery Oversee project schedules, budgets, and installation activities Ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, and safety requirements Review and validate engineering designs, drawings, and field work (as-builts) Coordinate with plant teams to ensure seamless project implementation Maintain detailed project documentation (manuals, drawings, specs, parts lists) Provide regular updates and reports to leadership on project progress Drive continuous improvement in automation, robotics, and controls capabilities What You Bring Strong technical foundation in engineering design and automation systems Experience working in food processing, meat processing, or similar manufacturing environments Ability to manage complex, large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation capabilities Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Why This Role This is an opportunity to take ownership of high-visibility, strategic projects that directly impact operational efficiency and innovation.
