Job Description

As a Design Manager Group Leader (GL), you'll be called upon to use your inspirational leadership skills to provide mentoring and coaching to staff aligned to you, including development of goals and performance reviews. GLs are also responsible for promoting inclusion and diversity and for working to provide meaningful and equitable opportunities for all staff to progress their careers within Jacobs. This is an opportunity to provide leadership and support staff as part of our broader West Central Water Team. In this role you'll:
  • Manage and grow the Design Manager Specialist team located across West Central and global aligned staff
  • Coordinate with design staff within the Infrastructure Design Department, other West Central staff, and design staff outside of West Central to fill resource needs on projects and identify potential projects for staff
  • Participate in West Central and other relevant design staff coordination meetings so that you are knowledgeable of the projects, resources, availability, and opportunities for West Central staff
  • Be a point of contact for West Central Water for staffing requests on design projects and requests for scope and fee development
  • Promote a culture of quality for all design managers to improve our overall quality in delivery
  • Promote a culture of caring, quality, safety, and Inclusion and Diversity
  • Build team culture in concert with overall performance unit and company goals/strategy
  • Shape a high-performance culture centered on design quality and excellence, driving consistency, innovation, and continuous improvement across design teams in alignment with company goals/strategy.
  • Champion BIA Technical Improvements Initiative objectives on delivery of West Central Water design projects
  • Communicate with aligned staff about career goals, performance expectations, and workload management
  • Work out of a Jacobs or client office at least 3 days a week
  • Hold monthly or quarterly team meetings
  • Hold 1:1 meetings with staff
  • Manage staff performance and help grow and develop talent
  • Manage staff utilization and partner with PMs and other project execution staff to deliver on project needs and contractual terms
  • Partner with Market Solutions counterparts to disperse knowledge and incorporate new technologies within assigned field
  • Coordinate across geographies, regions and globally to optimize resource management and provide opportunities for staff development
  • Act as hiring manager for required staff, working in concert with others around established hiring plans; including helping our business achieve TogetherBeyond goals and integrate new hires
  • Conduct internal team meetings to coordinate staff workloads and needs as well as convey management and HR communications, policies, procedures and industry norms
  • Participate in West Central Water Team and West Central Leadership meetings
  • Coordinate requests for training and conference attendance for aligned staff
  • Review and approve time sheets, expense reports, and time off requests for aligned staff, as wells as IT requests
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in applicable field
  • Demonstrated experience leading interdisciplinary design teams for infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated aptitude, ability, and capacity to build and support a team
  • Must be a team player possessing strong social, communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to formulate and convey a vision and collaborate with West Central Leadership and lead the team towards business objectives
  • Reputation as an ethical employee capable of handling sensitive personnel issues that require patience, sensitivity, and discretion
  • Ability to successfully perform Group Leader duties in concert with ongoing client billable work
