Full Job Description About This Job:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance operations within the hotel. This role ensures that the property's physical infrastructure, systems, and equipment operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulations, delivering a high-quality experience for guests and staff. Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all hotel systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment Develop and manage a preventive maintenance program for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house systems Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair needs Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety issues Leadership & Team Management Lead, supervise, and schedule engineering and maintenance staff Train, coach, and evaluate team members to ensure high performance and adherence to standards Assign and prioritize work orders and projects efficiently Budgeting & Administration Develop and manage the engineering department's operating and capital budgets Monitor inventory, supplies, and equipment costs Coordinate with vendors and contractors for repairs, maintenance, and capital projects Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations (building codes, fire safety, OSHA, etc.) Maintain safe working conditions for employees and a safe environment for guests Oversee inspections, certifications, and documentation for audits and regulatory reviews Property & Asset Management Protect and maintain the hotel's physical assets and infrastructure Plan and oversee renovation projects, upgrades, and long-term capital improvements Implement energy-saving and sustainability initiatives to reduce operating costs Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of experience in hotel or facilities engineering, with supervisory experience preferred Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems Key Skills Leadership and team management Problem-solving and troubleshooting Budgeting and cost control Knowledge of safety and compliance standards Communication and organizational skills Working Conditions May require on-call availability for emergencies Work performed in varied environments including mechanical rooms, outdoors, and guest areas Reporting Structure Reports directly to the General Manager Supervises Engineering and Maintenance Staff Overall Impact The Chief Engineer plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the hotel operates efficiently, safely, and comfortably, directly contributing to guest satisfaction and property performance.
