Job Description

What to Expect Lead the integration of innovative engineering and Tesla's Production System principals into the optimized design, manufacturing and process development of stamping dies used to produce Tesla products. The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in launching or maintaining stamping dies for new model vehicle programs demanding the highest quality standards and leading a highly technical Tool & Die team in a relentlessly demanding environment. The successful candidate for this position will be a highly motivated individual who takes pride in analytical and hands-on abilities, leadership abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail. What You'll Do Lead the Tool and Die department, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment while optimizing stamping die performance Develop and implement strategic goals using business, financial, and operational data to drive efficiency Recruit, train, and manage a highly skilled team, fostering continuous improvement and high performance Oversee the full tooling lifecycle, including design, preventive maintenance, engineering changes, and repairs Support Manufacturing Engineering in tooling development for new model programs under tight timelines and budgets Enhance tooling durability and defect prevention through engineering principles and advanced forming methods Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams' safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations What You'll Bring Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience, including 5+ years in automotive die maintenance, or 17+ years of equivalent experience Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams, setting priorities, and improving performance in a dynamic environment Proven track record managing large-scale projects with strict deadlines, budgets, and quality standards Expertise in tooling maintenance systems, production metrics, and process optimization Experience in die maintenance for aluminum-stamped panels and luxury vehicle programs Knowledge of world-class production systems (e.g., TPS, GMS) and dimensional inspection techniques (CMM, vision systems) Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with proficiency in MS Office Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Tesla is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
