Job Summary :
NAES is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to support utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout Pennsylvania, with the flexibility to float between multiple project sites as needed. The Commissioning Manager will oversee and coordinate commissioning activities performed by EPC contractors and vendors, ensuring that systems are installed, tested, and placed into service in accordance with project specifications and utility interconnection requirements. This role requires a hands-on professional capable of quickly integrating into active commissioning environments, facilitating collaboration among project stakeholders, and driving successful system energization and turnover.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Oversee and coordinate EPC-led commissioning activities for utility-scale BESS projects. Witness and verify pre-functional, functional, and performance testing of electrical and control systems. Support system energization, synchronization, and operational readiness. Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, testing agencies, and utility representatives to ensure successful commissioning. Review commissioning plans, procedures, and readiness documentation for completeness and compliance with project requirements. Verify proper operation of key BESS components, including battery containers, PCS, transformers, MV switchgear, protection systems, and communications. Support validation of EMS and SCADA functionality, including charge/discharge modes, control logic, and system alarms. Track and communicate commissioning progress, issues, and resolutions, ensuring timely closure of deficiencies. Lead or participate in commissioning meetings and maintain commissioning logs and documentation. Support preparation of turnover documentation and final commissioning reports. Promote and enforce adherence to all site safety policies and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements :
Proven ability to lead and coordinate commissioning activities in collaboration with EPC contractors and multidisciplinary project teams. Strong knowledge of electrical and control systems associated with utility-scale energy projects. Experience supporting utility interconnection, energization, and system performance testing. Ability to work independently and integrate quickly into active project environments. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Willingness and ability to travel between multiple project sites. Education /
Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred. 7+ years of experience in commissioning, startup, or construction of power generation, renewable energy, or BESS projects. Demonstrated experience in a Commissioning Manager, Commissioning Lead, or similar leadership role. Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or OSHA 10/30 or
NFPA 70E
certification is a plus.
