About the team and the role: eBay's Design organization creates seamless, end-to-end experiences that connect millions of buyers and sellers globally. The team is customer-focused, collaborative, and driven by curiosity—working across product, engineering, and business to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful impact. As a Director, Design, you will enable teams working on eBay's most important initiatives to deliver high-quality, impactful experiences. While Principal, Design team members define product direction and outcomes, you as the Director, Design are accountable for how effectively teams operate—building strong talent, improving collaboration, and raising the quality and consistency of design across the organization. This role is a force multiplier, scaling impact through people, craft, and ways of working.
What you will accomplish:
Increase team effectiveness by driving clarity, focus, and strong ways of working across design, product, and engineering Raise the quality and consistency of design through thoughtful direction, critique, and shared standards Build and grow a high-performing, inclusive team, strengthening talent, engagement, and long-term capability Develop designers into confident, independent contributors and future leaders through coaching and feedback Improve cross-functional collaboration, reducing friction and enabling faster, higher-quality decision-making Create an environment where teams can navigate ambiguity, maintain momentum, and deliver consistently What you will bring: 15+ years of experience leading and developing cross-functional design teams, with a focus on building inclusive, high-performing environments Strong hiring and talent management skills, including coaching, feedback, and supporting career growth Ability to plan and allocate resources effectively, with a clear understanding of team capacity and priorities Solid design judgment, with the ability to guide, critique, and elevate work quality across a team Proven ability to improve team effectiveness and ways of working in complex, fast-moving environments Comfort navigating ambiguity, making informed decisions, and collaborating across distributed, global teams Additional Details The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below: $224,800 - $300,100 Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
