Full Job Description Description & Details:
North Dakota State University seeks a Director of Enterprise Networks. The Director is responsible for the network engineering group and will oversee all fiber/copper network infrastructure operations and design for NDSU. This position requires candidates to meet the definition of a U.S. person under U.S. Export Control laws. Must be a U.S. person defined by 22 C.F.R 120.15 Responsibilities include: Manage the Enterprise Networks group with operational responsibility for both the internal and external fiber/copper plant management, logical and physical design of the campus network, including all equipment needed to provide wired and wireless connectivity. Supervise and direct the review and analysis of network traffic operations to anticipate and improve performance, capacity, and security requirements. Review and analyze network traffic and operations and develop recommendations to improve performance, capacity, and security. Provide detailed technical counsel and expertise, and serve as a resource regarding all aspects of networking to leadership and the university. Provide leadership and vision for general and high-performance networking in support of NDSU's academic and research activities. Create, refine, and implement procedures and policies based on academic and industry best practices. Plan, assign, and review work related to all operational aspects of the Enterprise Networks group and ensure service levels and objectives are met.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm (or official university business hours); some overtime and travel may be required Some remote work may be possible.
Hiring Range:
$100,000-$125,000+ DOE Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree (in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field) and 7+ years experience in designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise class networks; or 11 years of equivalent experience (at least 7 years of this experience in designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise class networks). 5 years of management experience. Experience with equipment vendor contract negotiation. Demonstrated ability of providing excellent customer service. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and exercise initiative and judgement to make critical operational decisions. Knowledge of the design and employment of communications infrastructure Knowledge of network protocols (TCP, UDP, IP).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field. 15 years experience in designing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise-class networks. High level of knowledge of industry best practices, technologies, and their applicability to a higher education research environment.
