Job Title:
Field Engineering Manager - Radar Systems Job Description The Field Engineering Manager serves as the technical owner and primary customer-facing authority for assigned radar systems, including primary and secondary surveillance radar platforms. This role leads all field engineering activities to ensure successful installation, integration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of radar systems delivered to aviation authorities. Working closely with program management and internal engineering teams, the Field Engineering Manager oversees a field engineering team and acts as the main technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that all contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements are fully met. Responsibilities Serve as the Field Engineering and Technical Manager for assigned radar projects, taking ownership of technical implementation, system performance, and on-site execution. Lead and manage all field engineering activities, including installation, integration, testing, commissioning, and final acceptance of radar systems. Act as the primary technical interface with aviation authorities, including the FAA, to address technical issues, support acceptance activities, and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations. Ensure all systems comply with contractual requirements, technical specifications, quality standards, and agreed delivery timelines. Maintain up-to-date familiarity with applicable FAA regulations, orders, advisories, and technical guidance, particularly related to relevant radar programs. Coordinate closely with program management, internal engineering teams, and external partners to support successful project execution and risk mitigation. Provide technical guidance, direction, and oversight to field engineers and technicians, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to safety and quality procedures. Review and interpret technical documentation, CAD drawings, system schematics, and installation layouts to guide on-site implementation and troubleshooting. Support product support and technical support activities by diagnosing field issues, coordinating corrective actions, and contributing to continuous improvement of radar systems. Engage directly with customers in a professional manner, providing clear technical communication, status updates, and customer service throughout the project lifecycle. Plan and coordinate field activities across multiple customer locations, ensuring adequate resource allocation and timely completion of project milestones. Collaborate with electronics, radar, and systems engineering teams to validate system performance, conduct field tests, and ensure compliance with radar and air traffic requirements. Utilize RF test equipment and measurement tools as needed to verify system performance, troubleshoot issues, and document test results. Support aerospace and defense, air traffic, and air surveillance applications by ensuring reliable and compliant operation of deployed radar systems. Travel to customer sites as required to oversee field activities, conduct technical reviews, and support system acceptance. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience. Previous experience in field engineering, systems engineering, or technical project leadership, preferably with radar or RF-based systems. Proven experience leading, supervising, or managing technical teams in a field or customer-facing environment. Hands-on field engineering experience, including installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of complex electronic or radar systems. Strong technical experience in radar, electronics, or related electrical systems, with the ability to understand and support radar system operation. Ability to interpret technical documentation and CAD drawings, including system schematics and installation layouts. Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators (preferred). Experience working with or supporting radar, air surveillance, air traffic, or aerospace defense systems. Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and regulatory stakeholders such as the FAA. Demonstrated customer service mindset and ability to provide effective technical support in the field. Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites as required, including to multiple locations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with primary and secondary surveillance radar systems or similar air traffic equipment. Experience in aerospace, defense, air traffic management, or air surveillance environments. Experience in product support and technical support for complex electronic or radar systems. Exposure to FAA processes, regulations, and technical guidance related to radar and air traffic systems. Experience coordinating with cross-functional teams, including program management, engineering, and external partners. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or sites concurrently while maintaining quality and schedule. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in the field. Ability to operate effectively in a customer-facing role, building trust and long-term relationships. Comfort working with electronic, electrical, and RF systems in a field environment. Work Environment This role operates primarily in the field at customer sites, with travel required to numerous locations—potentially up to 100 different sites—depending on project needs. The Field Engineering Manager works closely with on-site teams to install, integrate, test, and commission radar and air traffic systems in operational environments. The position involves frequent interaction with aviation authorities and regulatory stakeholders, including the FAA, and requires adherence to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards. You will work with advanced radar and RF-based technologies, including electronic systems and RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators. The organization is in a strong growth phase, expanding significantly in the United States and moving into a brand-new facility over the next several months, with expansion occurring in phases. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
