Job Description:
The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is currently seeking a Manager, Quality Engineering to join its Application Development team. In this role, the Manager, Quality Engineering is responsible for transforming and leading the organization's quality strategy, automation maturity, and AI-enabled testing practices. This role owns test architecture, automation standards, non-functional testing strategy, and the integration of AI into quality workflows. The position partners closely with Application Development, Architecture, and DevOps to ensure quality is engineered into systems. Reporting to the Senior Director, Application Development, the Manager, Quality Engineering has the following primary responsibilities: Quality Strategy & Transformation Define and execute a 2-3 year Quality Engineering roadmap Shift organization from manual-heavy QA to automation-first Establish measurable coverage and quality KPIs Reduce regression cycle times year over year Decrease production defect escape rates Test Architecture & Automation Standards Design and standardize automation frameworks (UI, API, integration) Collaborate in defining unit, integration, , and performance testing standards Ensure CI/CD integration of automated testing Eliminate fragmented or redundant automation approaches AI-Enabled Testing Collaborate on adoption of AI-driven unit test generation Implement AI-assisted regression expansion based on code changes Introduce AI-supported Test case creation and requirement analysis Establish guardrails for reviewing AI-generated tests Promote AI literacy across QA teams Developer-Driven Quality Collaborate in defining expectations for test coverage at the pull request level Partner with tech leads to embed quality into design reviews Move quality earlier in the lifecycle (shift-left) Non-Functional Testing Ownership Build consensus and facilitate performance testing strategy Collaborating on Security testing integration Test data management Environment validation strategy Leadership & Enablement Mentor QA engineers toward automation and engineering skill sets Influence without bureaucracy Partner with App Dev Managers to reduce quality friction Provide executive-level reporting on quality health and automation ROI The ideal candidate has 10 years of professional experience in software quality engineering with hands-on automation framework experience, with at least three years of quality management experience in multi-project environments. An in-depth background in coding, integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines, reducing manual regression and the ability to modernize QA organizations is required. The successful incumbent possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization and within their team. A person with problem-solving and decision-making acumen, along with the intuitive aptitude to engage with and sustain high-performing teams will thrive in this role.
