Job Description

Position Summary:
The Principal Product Architect, Pharmacy Systems is an enterprise-level technical leader responsible for defining and executing the strategy for scaling pharmacy operations through technology. This role owns the architecture, design, and delivery of systems that transform manual, high-touch workflows into automated, intelligent, and production-grade platforms. Operating at the intersection of product, engineering, and operations, this position drives the development of cloud-native, AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, ensure data integrity, and support regulatory compliance. The Principal Product Architect partners closely with executive leadership to translate business objectives into scalable system capabilities and is accountable for automation outcomes, system performance, and the long-term scalability of pharmacy operations.
Essential Functions:
Owns the enterprise technical strategy and architecture for pharmacy systems, ensuring platforms scale with organizational growth and reduce reliance on manual workflows. Designs and governs the end-to-end pharmacy ingestion and workflow ecosystem, including prescription intake, patient workflows, provider integration, and financial data architecture. Leads the development of 0→1 platforms and backend services, transforming high-touch pharmacy operations into automated, production-grade systems. Architects and deploys AI-enabled workflows, including LLM- and RAG-based pipelines, to extract, structure, and operationalize complex clinical and operational data. Establishes and enforces architectural standards, data integrity frameworks, and system design principles across engineering and product teams. Partners with executive leadership to translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions, influencing prioritization of high-impact initiatives. Accountable for automation outcomes and system performance, including throughput improvements, reduction of manual workflows, and mitigation of operational bottlenecks. Identifies and mitigates enterprise-level risks related to system performance, data accuracy, regulatory compliance, and workflow reliability. Drives cross-functional alignment across pharmacy operations, compliance, product, and engineering to ensure systems support clinical, regulatory, and business requirements. Oversees the full system lifecycle, including architecture design, development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization. Leads technical discovery, documentation, and knowledge sharing, reducing single points of failure and strengthening organizational capability. Evaluates and prioritizes system investments and build vs. buy decisions, ensuring technology solutions deliver measurable value, scalability, and operational efficiency. Establishes and monitors key system performance and automation metrics, using data to continuously optimize workflows, improve accuracy, and drive informed decision-making across the organization. Evaluates and integrates emerging technologies and tools to continuously improve automation, system intelligence, and operational efficiency. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelorʼs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field required. Advanced degree Masterʼs degree preferred. 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience with deep hands-on development in Python (Flask, FastAPI, Django) and a demonstrated track record of architecting and delivering scalable, production-grade systems. Proven experience designing and owning end-to-end system architectures, including backend services, distributed systems, and high-scale, event-driven platforms. Expert-level SQL and relational database design, including schema architecture, query optimization, and data modeling for high-integrity financial and clinical systems. Deep experience designing and deploying AI-enabled workflows, including LLMs, prompt engineering, structured-output pipelines, and AI-assisted operational systems in production environments Expertise in Robotic Process Automation (RPA), agentic workflows, complex API integrations, and event-driven architectures that reduce manual effort and increase operational throughput. Strong experience building and scaling systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including containerized services, infrastructure-as-code, and distributed system reliability. Proficiency with modern engineering practices, including Git-based CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, observability tools, and production monitoring systems. Experience building systems in regulated industries (healthcare, pharmacy, financial services), with an understanding of compliance, data integrity, and risk mitigation. Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, influence cross-functional teams, and partner with executive stakeholders to drive strategic outcomes. Strong ability to operate in ambiguous environments, define technical direction, and independently drive complex initiatives from concept through deployment and optimization
