Job Description
We are seeking experienced Power Systems Engineers at mid-senior and senior levels to join a leading consulting team serving clients across North America. In this role, you will manage and execute complex generation and transmission projects, oversee budgets, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers. The position involves advanced modeling and analysis of power networks, leveraging expertise in power generation and transmission principles. You will play a key role in delivering consulting projects focused on system planning studies, including steady-state, short circuit, dynamic stability, renewable integration, market analysis, and grid resilience. Key Responsibilities Perform independent modeling and analysis for steady-state, transient stability, and fast transient studies, including verification and reporting. Lead technical studies for generator interconnections, including feasibility, system impact, and deliverability assessments. Ensure compliance with ISO/RTO requirements and methodologies for technical studies. Develop detailed transmission system models using EMT software. Conduct research and provide recommendations for equipment and material selection. Maintain adherence to internal quality standards and processes. Mentor and guide team members on generation (including inverter-based resources), transmission, interconnection, and modeling principles. Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality to ensure successful delivery. Collaborate and share information effectively within the team. Maintain client focus by understanding project drivers and priorities. Identify and mitigate technical, practical, and economic risks.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Experience:
Minimum 6 years in technical studies, including transmission planning and generation interconnection with ISOs, utilities, or consulting firms. Familiarity with regulatory compliance and NERC standards (TPL, MOD, CIP). Demonstrated technical excellence through reports or publications. Ability to travel to client sites and industry meetings as needed. Skills & Tools Proficiency in power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, Aspen, PSCAD, MATLAB). Programming experience in Python, C, MATLAB, or FORTRAN. Strong understanding of ISO/RTO market structures. Advanced Excel skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork abilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Project management experience in consulting or utility environments. Expertise in cost estimation and facility studies. Advanced proficiency in modeling tools and programming languages.
