The Opportunity AG Growth International (AGI) is seeking an experienced Application Engineering Manager to lead our permanent handling application engineering team in Sioux Falls, SD. This leadership role will oversee the design, development, and continuous improvement of our permanent handling conveying product lines, driving innovation in grain handling and storage solutions while managing a team of talented engineers.
Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of application engineers and designers, focused on permanent handling conveying application engineering product development Partner with product development and manufacturing engineering to continue developing and improving our engineering standards and manufacturing processes Serve as a technical partner to external customers during the application engineering and design process for specific projects, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements, performance expectations, and operational constraints. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team and internal stakeholders Conduct performance reviews, establish development plans, and support career growth for team members Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent to build a high-performing team Drive the strategic direction and roadmap for the permanent handling conveyance product line enhancements and new product development Oversee all phases of product development from concept through design, testing, validation, and production launch Ensure designs meet customer requirements, industry standards, and AGI quality expectations Identify opportunities for product cost reduction, performance improvement, and manufacturability enhancements Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects, ensuring on-time delivery to manufacturing within the project constraints Collaborate cross-functional with manufacturing, quality, sales, and supply chain teams Establish project timelines, resource allocation, and success metrics for engineering initiatives Provide regular status updates to senior leadership on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies Maintain deep technical knowledge of grain handling equipment, material conveyance systems, and industry best practices Champion the use of modern engineering tools, methodologies, and processes (CAD, FEA, PLM systems) Support field troubleshooting and root cause analysis for product performance issues Stay current with emerging technologies and competitive products to maintain AGI's market leadership
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related engineering discipline Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in product development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role Proven track record of successfully leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects Strong technical foundation in mechanical design, structural analysis, and manufacturing processes Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) and PLM systems Master's degree in Engineering or MBA Experience in the agricultural equipment, grain handling, or material handling industries Design background with grain augers, conveyors, or bulk material handling equipment Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Experience with lean manufacturing principles and value engineering methodologies Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations (ASAE, OSHA, CSA) Ability to travel for up to 25% of the time Why AGI?
