Vice President / Principal-in-Charge (Design-Build)
Location:
Dallas / Fort Worth, TX (preferred) Position Overview The Vice President / Principal-in-Charge (PIC) will lead complex transportation and federal design-build pursuits and projects. This individual will serve as Project Manager during the pursuit phase and provide executive oversight throughout project delivery, ensuring successful execution during design and construction. This role is responsible for overall project leadership, including planning, contract management, quality assurance, financial performance, and team leadership on large lump-sum design-build projects. Key Responsibilities Lead the pursuit and delivery of large-scale transportation design-build projects Serve as Project Manager during pursuits, including strategy development and client engagement Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards Manage contracts, risk, change management, and claims mitigation strategies Develop and execute teaming strategies; evaluate and negotiate with partners and consultants Support go/no-go decisions and lead proposal and interview efforts Monitor project financial performance, including forecasting, staffing, and profitability Ensure compliance with quality control and assurance programs Lead multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations Mentor and develop project staff and emerging leaders Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) 15+ years of transportation design experience 10+ years of experience managing or leading design-build projects (preferably >$500M) Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in alternative delivery environments Strong expertise in project financial management, contracts, and risk management Technical Expertise Transportation infrastructure design (roadways, drainage, retaining walls) Design-build delivery methods and constructability considerations DOT standards, permitting processes, and technical compliance Coordination across roadway, structural, geotechnical, traffic, and utility disciplines Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and team management abilities Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities Ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities High level of collaboration and adaptability Additional Requirements Willingness to travel as needed to support projects and pursuits Job Alerts Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Senior Transportation Program Manager| Austin
