Job Description

Distribution Designer - Power Delivery Be Part of a Global EPC Powering the Future of Utility Infrastructure We are seeking a Distribution Designer to join the Power Delivery Division of a leading international EPC firm. This role supports critical joint‑use and distribution projects that strengthen utility infrastructure across the Houston, Texas area. Our teams deliver technically rigorous, compliant designs that help utilities modernize their networks and maintain safe, reliable service. This position focuses on make‑ready and joint‑use design for overhead distribution facilities. While prior utility experience is helpful, it is not required—comprehensive training is provided for designers with strong joint‑use and make‑ready backgrounds who are ready to grow within a large, global engineering organization. What You'll Do Support joint‑use and distribution design projects , with an emphasis on make‑ready work for overhead utility infrastructure Develop, review, and revise design packages using industry‑standard tools such as KATAPULT and/or
SPIDACALC
Apply and interpret National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements to ensure safe, compliant designs Analyze existing pole and distribution configurations to determine required make‑ready work and develop practical design solutions Coordinate with internal engineering, project management, and design teams to meet project schedules and quality expectations Document design decisions and maintain organized records of calculations, drawings, and supporting data Incorporate feedback from reviewers, engineers, and project leads to continuously improve design quality Learn and follow established EPC design standards, procedures, and best practices through structured training Support multiple projects simultaneously while managing priorities and deadlines Participate in limited field reviews or minimal travel, as needed, to validate site conditions Required Qualifications 2+ years of joint‑use and make‑ready experience using KATAPULT and/or
SPIDACALC
Experience supporting joint‑use or distribution design projects Strong working knowledge of NESC standards and their application to overhead distribution systems Ability to interpret and develop joint‑use and distribution drawings and documentation Associate's degree required Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design calculations and documentation Ability to adapt to utility‑specific standards through training Proven ability to manage multiple assignments in a structured, office‑based environment Preferred Experience Prior experience with a utility, telecom, or utility‑focused engineering/design firm Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to recommend effective solutions within regulatory standards Clear communication skills for collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams Comfort learning new design tools and workflows Motivation to grow into a long‑term career path within Power Delivery design Work Environment & Benefits Office‑based role in the Houston, TX area Standard hours approximately 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 9/80 schedule option , providing every other Friday off Primarily computer‑based work using specialized distribution design tools Structured training, strong internal support, and clear design standards Upon direct hire, access to competitive benefits , long‑term project stability, and manageable workloads Annual allotment of work‑from‑home flexibility , while maintaining a collaborative office presence Why Join This Team Work within a globally recognized EPC supporting major utility clients Be part of a Power Delivery division critical to grid reliability and modernization Gain exposure to large‑scale, technically complex distribution programs Build a long‑term career with training, structure, and advancement opportunities Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
