Sustainment Program Manager Location:
San Antonio, TX Position Overview The Sustainment Program Manager leads and coordinates end-to-end sustainment activities for aerospace platforms and systems, ensuring operational readiness, affordability, and regulatory compliance. This role owns program execution, performance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement across engineering, logistics, and supply chain teams to meet lifecycle support objectives and deliver measurable reliability and availability improvements. Key Responsibilities Lead planning and execution of sustainment programs for aerospace systems, from requirements definition through field support and obsolescence management. Establish and maintain program schedules, budgets, and performance metrics; monitor progress and implement corrective actions to meet cost, schedule, and technical baselines. Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, logistics, maintenance, procurement, and quality) to deliver integrated sustainment solutions. Develop and maintain program documentation including sustainment plans, maintenance concepts, technical data packages, risk registers, and status reports for internal and external stakeholders. Drive data-driven monitoring and reporting of operational metrics (readiness, MTBF, maintenance burden) and use findings to recommend and implement optimization initiatives. Manage supplier and subcontractor performance, including contract deliverables, technical reviews, and compliance with aerospace standards and regulations. Identify and mitigate program risks and issues; lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes for in-service failures or reliability shortfalls. Engage with customers, end users, and regulatory authorities to align sustainment strategies with mission requirements and certification obligations. Promote continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, implementing best practices, and supporting sustainment innovation and modernization efforts. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience within the aerospace industry. Demonstrated expertise in project monitoring and program performance management, including schedule, cost, and risk control. Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage suppliers and subcontractors in complex technical programs. Experience with program management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), data analysis tools, and configuration management systems.
