Engineering Specialist - Capital Projects & Manufacturing Engineering Direct Hire Danville, VA (100% onsite) Make an Impact Through Capital Investment and Operational Excellenc e We are seeking an experienced Engineering Specialist to lead and deliver capital investment projects that drive operational excellence, manufacturing efficiency, sustainability, and long-term business growth. This role offers the opportunity to manage the full lifecycle of CAPEX projects-from concept development and business case creation through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and operational handof f. As a key member of the Engineering team, you will partner with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Procurement, and Leadership teams to execute strategic manufacturing projects that improve productivity, reliability, safety, and cost performance across our processing and manufacturing operatio ns. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and has a proven track record of successfully managing capital projects, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering measurable business resu lts. What You' ll Do Lead Capital Project Exe cutionManage multiple CAPEX projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, and performance objec tives.
Lead projects through the complete project lifecycle including feasibility studies, business case development, engineering design, procurement, installation, commissioning, validation, and st artup.
Develop technical specifications, engineering drawings, project schedules, and contractor scopes of work.
Coordinate internal stakeholders, external vendors, engineering consultants, and contractors to ensure successful project exec ution.
Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans to maintain project performance and delivery time lines.
Drive implementation of manufacturing, facility, utility, automation, and infrastructure projects aligned with business objec tives. Manufacturing Engineering & Continuous Impr ovementPartner with Operations and Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, process capability, production efficiency, and asset perfo rmance.
Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering solutions that enhance productivity, quality, sustainability, and operational effecti veness.
Support process optimization initiatives and continuous improvement projects using data-driven decision- making.
Lead technical evaluations and provide engineering expertise for operational and expansion pr ojects.
Ensure effective transition of newly installed equipment and systems to operational teams through structured commissioning and handover pro cesses.
CAPEX Planning & Financial Man agementSupport the development and execution of the annual capital investment st rategy.
Build robust financial justifications, ROI analyses, and investment proposals for capital pr ojects.
Manage project budgets, forecasts, cost tracking, and financial reporting to ensure effective utilization of capital res ources.
Drive cost reduction initiatives through engineering innovation, resource optimization, and project execution exce llence.
Maintain accountability for CAPEX spending and project financial perfo rmance. Engineering Standards, Compliance & ; SafetyEnsure all projects comply with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company p olicies.
Provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, automation, civil, utility, and facility engineering disc iplines.
Partner closely with EHS teams to ensure safe project execution and compliance with environmental, health, and safety regu lations.
Participate in audits, inspections, and risk assessments while promoting a strong safety culture throughout project act ivities. Sustainability & Energy M anagementLead and support initiatives focused on energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainability impr ovements.
Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption, utility costs, and environmental impact across manufacturing op erations.
Support ISO 50001 and other sustainability-related initiatives through engineering analysis and project implem entation.
Conduct facility assessments, energy audits, and resource utilization studies to drive continuous imp rovement. What We're L ooking ForBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering d iscipline.5+ years of engineering experience managing capital projects within a manufacturing, industrial, processing, or production en vironment.
Demonstrated experience leading CAPEX projects from concept through commissioning and operationa l handoff.
Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, engineering design, contractor management, and manufacturin g systems.
Experience developing project budgets, financial justifications, ROI analyses, and capital investment proposals.
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment installation, process improvement, and asset reliability p rinciples.
Experience collaborating across Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Procurement, and Leaders hip teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, Power BI, and project managem ent tools.
Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solvi ng skills.
Fluency in English, both written a nd verba l.
