Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION
The Director of Engineering and Quality is a leadership role responsible for the strategic direction and daily operation of the technical functions of P1 Technologies. These technical functions include but are not limited to developing new products, supporting production to minimize downtime, process improvements and cost reduction activities using lean Engineering concepts, meeting or exceeding all quality and compliance standards, and support and oversight within the Toolroom and Machine Shop.
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Lead, manage, and demonstrate accountability for all technical departments including the New Product Engineering, Sustaining Engineering, R&D / Lean engineering, Quality Assurance, and Toolroom / Machine shop.
  • Ensure that development and manufacturing processes adhere to industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA, or ITAR regulations).
  • Utilize all available resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible along with establishing work priorities for the technical staff.
  • Delegate responsibility and authority consistent with policies, procedures and goals by motivating staff to achieve their goals and the goals of the company.
  • Manage departmental budgets and recommend appropriate resource allocations.
  • Define the technical vision and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to align engineering output with business objectives.
  • Lead quality teams for root cause analysis, designing validation procedures, and implementing continuous improvement methodologies like Six Sigma and Lean.
  • Recruiting, mentoring, and managing distributed engineering and QA teams to support scalable production and launch excellence.
  • Partnering with Product, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to embed quality control from the design phase all the way to customer delivery.
  • Work to continually improve process methods and help the department reach its overall performance goals

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10 to 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in engineering, quality assurance, and technical leadership.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Must have the following advanced math skills: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Physics, etc.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of various manufacturing processes: soldering, resistance and ultrasonic welding, injection molding, tool fabrication, PCB Assembly, etc.
  • Must have the ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings along with 3D modeling.
  • Must have the ability to recognize critical phases of a project, anticipate potential problems and be able to designate appropriate alternatives to solve problems.
  • Must be able to work with the pressure of deadlines along with handling many tasks simultaneously.
  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, strategic planning and leadership skills.
  • Must be comfortable with on-the-job training, cross-training and training other manufacturing staff.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others as well as independently, exploring and sharing ways to improve efficiency
  • Must be detail-oriented: accurate, consistent, thorough, neat, able to recognize manufacturing damage/flaws with products/processes, punctual
  • Must demonstrate commitment to workplace safety
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Certifications such as Six Sigma, Lean, or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) are highly valued.
EQUIPMENT USED
  • Regular use of computers, phones, copiers, calculators, and standard office equipment
  • Various handheld tools and fixtures, soldering irons, measurement gauges, and vision measurement systems.
  • Molding presses, Welders, Machine Shop Equipment, 3D Printers, etc.
  • Software Systems include Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Mastercam, and ERP Systems.
  • Other equipment as assigned.
Pay:
$110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
