Job Description

•This job opportunity is not in the classified service and is not covered by the West Virginia Division of Personnel merit system. •Classified-Exempt Position Planning, Engineering, and Maintenance/Charleston HQ Under limited supervision at the advanced level, this position will perform professional engineering work at the WV Division of Natural Resources, PEM Section. This position reports directly to the Division of Natural Resources PEM Section Chief at the DNR Building 4 headquarters in Charleston WV Capitol Complex and performs professional work at the supervisory level on a variety of engineering services. This position will be responsible for supervising the activities and performance of PEM section engineer associates. Responsible for environmental regulatory compliance and the oversight of wastewater and water treatment systems. Responsible for performing work as Engineer-In-Charge of aerial trams, ski lifts, and sled run ground conveyance systems. Performs all supervisory and engineering work within Division and State guidelines. Ensures project scope, designs, costs, and contracts are properly reviewed and managed to meet funding sections' expectations. Perform supervisory work to ensure subordinate staff avoid expiration of contracts or deadlines and design/project completion delays. Oversee work of subordinates interactions with consultants, contractors, and purchasing processes to reduce project delays, design oversights, construction errors, and unnecessary change orders. Performs construction project management. As necessary, make engineering calculations and drawings or recommendations related to civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering design, such as, but not limited to structural design, sanitary engineering design, geotechnical engineering design, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and roadway design as the applicant's professional education, training and experience will allow. Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates from bidding documents. Prepare design study reports and preliminary cost estimates for proposed engineering and construction projects. Prepare contracts for the administration of consulting architectural/engineering services. Furnish technical advice, consultation, and assistance, as requested, applying the principles and practices of engineering. Comply with the Division and Section contract administration guidelines and project tracking methods. Preference may be given to applicants that have engineering knowledge in sanitary treatment systems, aerial tramways, ski lifts, belt driven tube or sled run lifts regarding operations, maintenance, and annual inspections or is willing to learn these systems, receive training, and be responsible for certifying these systems on a yearly or bi-yearly basis. Must be able to perform statewide travel. Perform other work and tasks as necessary. Applicants must demonstrate skill in written and oral communication. Regular attendance is required. Training:
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
AND Experience:
Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a licensed Professional Engineer in a responsible capacity in charge of engineering projects.
Note:
The experience must have been acquired after the bachelor's degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
