Job Description
Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where we have a history of leading the world in innovative technologies and services. The work of our Regional Environmental Engineers is critical to enabling AWS's growth in the US and around the world. The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS's growth, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS's global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. The team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS's global environmental programs. This includes defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards, tools, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon's ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. As a Regional Environmental Engineer (REE), you will be responsible for environmental compliance at operating AWS data centers in North Carolina (CLT). You will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance, complete environmental performance analysis, establish and monitor metrics, and guide the teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. You will provide guidance and build effective relationships with internal and external partners, including government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders. This position is based in Hamlet/Charlotte, North Carolina and will require travel throughout the state and the US. Key job responsibilities
- Manage and oversee compliance with environmental regulations and Amazon policy;
- Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization;
- Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards;
- Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance;
- Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement;
- Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently;
- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company;
- Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately;
- Assist in time-critical compliance report submission to various governmental agencies;
- Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with applicable laws
- 5+ years experience as environmental compliance specialist
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
- Experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or related fields
- Travel up to 25% of the time
