Job Description
Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental)
There are two positions: Position 1 will be stationed in the Buffalo Regional Office, Position 2 will be an on-site monitor assigned to one local permitted facility, with the facility designated as the official workstation. Approximately 50% of Position 2's time is allocated for performing tasks associated with the Division of Materials Management.
Work will involve the analysis of air contaminant emissions from processes, boilers, incinerators, and related air pollution control equipment, to evaluate compliance with New York State and United States Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
Inspections are performed to determine compliance with permits and applicable regulations.
The Engineer will work with legal staff to take appropriate enforcement action following department policies.
In addition, the work will require communication with the public and elected officials as necessary to address the region's concerns. If needed, assist the Regional Air Pollution Control Engineer, Regional Engineer/Geologist, and/or Regional Director with emergency response activities.

The job rate for this position is $122,252. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $115,252 with an additional geographic pay differential of $7,000, specific to this title and location.
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour

- review and issue waste acceptance determinations using knowledge of both air and solid waste regulations,
- write the solid waste management facility permit for assigned facility,
