What to Expect Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS) to support various environmental permitting and compliance programs across Tesla's global operations. Reporting to the Air Quality Program Manager, the Environmental Engineer will be responsible for performing complex technical work in air quality permitting and compliance projects. They will also manage external environmental consultants, serve as the internal environmental technical subject matter expert, and advise and influence internal business partners in order to achieve environmental performance goals. Support air permitting activities including but not limited to evaluating manufacturing processes and materials, identifying air emission sources, calculating potential emissions, evaluating regulatory applicability, preparing BACT analysis, recommending permitting options, and managing agency correspondence
Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new programs to meet regulatory and company requirements; and recommend corrective actions to responsible stakeholders as necessary
Identify, assess, and control environmental/compliance risks by monitoring and analyzing the developing trends and changes in laws/rules/regulations and utilizing Management of Change (MOC) and other tracking tools for new and existing projects
Ensure Tesla operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations including recordkeeping, routine compliance evaluations, periodic air emissions and compliance reporting, and air emission source testing coordination with stakeholders (as needed)
Support audits and inquiries from regulatory federal, state, and/or local regulatory agencies
Develop, track, report, and/or manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions
Perform incident analysis to determine causal factors and the most appropriate corrective actions What You'll Bring
Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
5 - 7 years experience with NSR and Title V permitting and compliance tasks across multiple jurisdictions including but not limited to Texas and California; and managing regulatory/agency inspections
Strong foundational knowledge of air quality laws (CAA, CEQA, NEPA, etc.), regulations, and standards including knowledge of federal
NESHAP/MACT/NSPS
