Job DescriptionAbout the RoleThe Plumbing Engineer Intern is an entry‑level internship position that performs job functions under the direct supervision of a project's Engineer‑of‑Record and/or Lead Plumbing Engineer. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to the design and engineering of sanitary waste drainage and vent systems, storm water systems, plumbing services, and other building support systems within the built environment.
Interns will gain real‑world experience supporting project teams across multiple phases of design while developing foundational technical and professional skills in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting. Key ResponsibilitiesSupport plumbing engineering design efforts, including drainage and fixture calculations, utility assessments, design reports, code evaluations, and plumbing service plansAssist with the preparation of drawings, schedules, installation details, and specificationsUtilize computer‑aided drafting and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) under supervisionSupport the basic design and layout of plumbing systems in conformance with applicable codes and standardsHelp coordinate plumbing designs with other disciplines to ensure integrated project solutionsAssist in the preparation of project deliverables across various phases of design, including:
StudiesConceptual and schematic designDesign developmentConstruction documentationConstruction administrationConduct basic field investigations to help integrate designs with existing systems and structuresCollaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and other internal and external team members to support a coordinated, constructible, and complete designWork on tasks of fundamental and basic complexity in a support role under the direction of experienced engineers and designers QualificationsMinimum QualificationsCurrently pursuing an ABET‑accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering(or Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical option)Strong interest in building systems design and the AEC industryAbility to work effectively in a team‑based, collaborative environment Preferred QualificationsExposure to or coursework involving plumbing systems, mechanical systems, or building infrastructureFamiliarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit preferredInterest in LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design principlesBasic understanding of engineering calculations related to plumbing systems (sanitary, vent, storm, service piping)Introductory knowledge of plumbing codes and industry standardsStrong communication skills with the ability to interface with internal team members and external partnersWillingness to learn and contribute to cross‑disciplinary coordination effortAdditional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
