Duties:
Design, develop, and optimize HVAC systems for commercial and residential facilities, including rooftop units, furnaces, boilers, split systems, and packaged equipment. Perform heating and cooling load calculations using ACCA Manual J and ASHRAE-based methods. Calculate air distribution system parameters, including duct sizing, friction loss, pressure drop, static pressure, and airflow balancing. Use AutoCAD and Revit to prepare HVAC system drawings, duct layouts, equipment schedules, and technical documentation for internal company use. Select appropriate HVAC equipment based on system capacity, airflow requirements, existing ductwork conditions, building performance needs, and applicable energy code requirements. Conduct field measurements, assess existing HVAC equipment and ductwork, coordinate with installation teams, support system commissioning, review test and balance information, and maintain as-built documentation. Frequent local travel to residential and commercial HVAC job sites within Cook County, Illinois. No overnight travel required.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Employer will accept, in the alternative, a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field plus five (5) years / 60 months of progressive experience in HVAC system design or related mechanical engineering work.
Special Requirements:
Proficiency in HVAC system design and drafting using AutoCAD and Revit. Ability to perform heating and cooling load calculations using ACCA Manual
J, ASHRAE
62.1 and 90.1, and other engineering methods. Experience designing ductwork layouts based on airflow requirements, pressure drop, friction loss, static pressure, system capacity, and building layout. Familiarity with IECC and local mechanical codes. Ability to read and interpret construction documents and coordinate HVAC layouts with architectural and structural plans. Knowledge of rooftop units, boilers, furnaces, split systems, packaged HVAC equipment, duct systems, airflow balancing, field coordination, commissioning, and final testing.
Primary Starting Location:
7703 W Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL 60706. The employee will regularly start from the employer's Norridge office and will travel locally to residential and commercial HVAC job sites within Cook County, Illinois. No overnight travel required. To apply, send resume ONLY by email to:
