Job Description
Electro Controls is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Building Systems Design Specialist to join our growing Building Automation team. This position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals interested in engineering, HVAC systems, construction technology, automation, energy management, and smart building systems. No prior Building Automation experience is required. Electro Controls provides extensive hands-on training and mentoring to help individuals develop into successful Building Automation Application Engineers. As a Building Systems Design Specialist, you will work with project managers, system integrators, technicians, and customers to design control systems that manage heating, cooling, ventilation, energy usage, and indoor environmental quality in commercial facilities. This position combines elements of engineering, design, technology, automation, and construction. What You'll Do Review construction drawings and project specifications Assist in designing Building Automation and HVAC control systems Develop engineering documentation and control drawings Create equipment schedules, point lists, and sequences of operation Prepare project submittal packages Support startup, commissioning, and system testing activities Collaborate with project managers, technicians, and system integrators Learn HVAC systems, controls technologies, and energy management strategies Assist with customer training and project closeout documentation Participate in continuous technical training and professional development Ideal Backgrounds We welcome applicants with education or experience in: Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Technology Construction Engineering Technology Industrial Engineering Energy Systems Architectural Engineering HVAC Technology Building Automation Construction Management Equivalent experience and technical aptitude will also be considered. Qualifications Strong computer skills Ability to learn technical systems quickly Strong attention to detail Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications Team-oriented and self-motivated Interest in engineering, automation, HVAC systems, or smart building technology Preferred Qualifications Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar software Understanding of mechanical systems or HVAC equipment Coursework in engineering, energy systems, controls, or construction Experience reading construction plans and specifications Training Provided Electro Controls provides extensive training covering: HVAC fundamentals Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls design Sequences of operation Equipment selection Control drawings Submittal development Commissioning and startup Industry software platforms Successful candidates will have a defined career path leading toward Application Engineer, Senior Application Engineer, and Technical Leadership roles.
