About the Role The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall leadership of building operations and maintenance for a given portfolio. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general repairs and preventative maintenance of building systems, HVAC systems expertise, utility savings efforts, lighting, and fire/life safety systems, ensuring optimal client/tenant satisfaction. This position will manage and maintain policies, procedures, standards, and reporting related to all maintenance functions, including budgeting, contracts and capital expenditure recommendations. This role plays a key part in maintaining the reliability and performance of our buildings, creating safe, functional environments for tenants and clients. Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Maintains engineering logs and completes required reports. Assists with implementing ongoing improvement programs (e.g., Energy Star, LEED). Adheres to all safety standards, policies, procedures, and codes of conduct. Completes maintenance activities using various enhancing tools for preventative maintenance tasks, work order requests, and managing building alarms (fire, BAS). Performs daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections of buildings and equipment. Coordinates activities with tenants as needed within leased spaces. Performs hands-on repairs, including pumps, motors, VFDs, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, fans, etc. Manages documents and files to comply with audits from local authorities. Manages construction projects per building standards. Manages work order software, including adding materials to stock, updating users, and adding new equipment PMs per manufacturer guidelines. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in maintenance-related fields preferred Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a medical or lab environment. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Experience with complex mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems in medical or lab settings.
