Type:
full-time
Job Description:
MEP Licensed Engineer ($125,000 to $150,000)
Initial, Applicant-Facing Job Description:
  • Be smart, kind, and driven. These are the core values of Quick Quack, and people who succeed here truly embody all three.
  • Apply your mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering expertise to design, produce, and stamp construction documents for Quick Quack's ground-up car wash prototype across multiple states.
  • Own and maintain Quick Quack's MEP prototype in Revit, ensuring every site-specific adaptation meets code, matches the prototype standard, and is coordinated with architectural and structural disciplines before it ever reaches a city.
  • Work closely with Project Architects, BIM Technicians, Entitlement team, and the Permitting team to drive fast, clean first submittals and rapid plan check responses that keep the development pipeline moving.
Formal Job Summary:
The MEP Engineer will serve as the in-house technical authority for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across Quick Quack's car wash development program. The MEP Engineer will own the master MEP prototype drawing set and Revit model, adapt it for site-specific conditions, coordinate with the architectural and structural disciplines, review all MEP output before city submittal, and respond to plan check comments directly. The role requires professional licensure in multiple states and a strong track record of producing MEP construction documents for commercial prototype or high-volume retail buildings.
Desired Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the MEP discipline lead and sole technical authority for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across the active development portfolio of 100+ concurrent projects.
  • Own and maintain the master MEP Revit prototype model, including all HVAC, plumbing, and electrical; issue versioned updates on a quarterly review cycle with the Senior Architect and BIM team.
  • Adapt the MEP prototype for each new site: perform HVAC load calculations, equipment sizing, utility service coordination, and site-specific code compliance review before handoff to BIM Technicians for drawing production.
  • Perform final technical review and approval of all MEP drawing sets produced by BIM Technicians before submittal to the city; no MEP package goes to a building department without your sign-off.
  • Stamp and seal MEP construction documents in all states where Quick Quack holds active projects; pursue reciprocal PE licensure in new markets as the pipeline expands.
  • Respond to all MEP-specific plan check comments directly; coordinate with the Project Architect on architectural comment responses and with the Structural Engineer on discipline conflicts.
  • Run clash detection between MEP, structural, and architectural Revit models before each submittal; resolve all MEP-originating conflicts before the drawing set leaves the team.
  • Establish and maintain MEP engineering standards, design criteria, and specifications that ensure consistency, code compliance, and constructability across all sites.
  • Coordinate with the team on utility service connections, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical service applications; provide technical support for utility provider submittals.
  • Support energy compliance documentation including COMcheck, Title 24, and other jurisdiction-specific energy code submittals.
  • Track MEP-related field change orders on completed and under-construction sites; incorporate lessons learned into the prototype model on a quarterly basis.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to BIM Technicians working on MEP model production.
  • Monitor evolving mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes and integrate updates into the prototype and design standards proactively.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; currently licensed in a minimum of 3 states with demonstrated willingness and plan to pursue additional state licensure as the pipeline requires.
  • 5+ years of experience producing MEP construction documents for commercial buildings; experience with prototype retail, restaurant, or car wash buildings strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and electrical distribution systems in the context of commercial ground-up construction.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, NEC, IBC, and
NFPA 13/72.
  • Proficiency in Revit required; AutoCAD proficiency required; experience managing and versioning a prototype Revit MEP model strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage MEP design across a high volume of concurrent projects simultaneously (15+ active sites).
  • Strong communication skills; ability to respond directly to plan check comments and represent the company in technical interactions with building departments and utility providers.
  • Detail-oriented working style with strong organizational skills for managing a large active portfolio.
  • Willingness to travel 15-20% of time for site visits, pre-application meetings, and building department interactions.
  • Remote position; must be available and present during standard business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST) for cross-functional collaboration with the design and entitlements team.
  • Must be willing to appear on camera during video meetings and virtual collaboration sessions.
