Job Description
Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) Job Description This role offers the opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical and HVAC engineers in the design and delivery of modular e-house projects. You will oversee the creation and review of HVAC, electrical, and general arrangement drawing sets, develop design standards for integrated manufacturing HVAC systems and controls, and serve as the primary project contact during client and internal engineering meetings. The position combines hands-on technical design work with project management responsibilities, ensuring that all solutions meet client specifications, applicable codes, and performance requirements. Responsibilities Lead a team of electrical and HVAC engineers to create and update General (G sheets), HVAC (M sheets), and Electrical (E sheets) for Issued for Approval, As-built, and Closeout submittal drawing sets. Serve as the project manager and primary point of contact for assigned projects, representing the engineering team during meetings and calls with clients and internal integrated manufacturing operations teams. Attend and lead engineering meetings and calls, clearly communicating team progress, design needs, and resolving questions in a timely and accurate manner. Develop and maintain standards for integrated manufacturing HVAC designs and HVAC controls for modular e-houses to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency. Perform final reviews of Issued for Approval, As-built, and Closeout submittal drawings to confirm that all plans meet client scope, specifications, and applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements. Ensure HVAC and electrical designs adhere to national and local codes while fully aligning with client requirements and project specifications. Perform or verify heat load calculations for each project and ensure proper sizing and selection of HVAC equipment based on these calculations. Create or verify CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analyses for each project and confirm that HVAC designs meet defined heat load and airflow requirements. Use AutoCAD proficiently to create and update general, HVAC, and electrical drawing sheets as needed to support project deadlines and team workload. Coordinate with HVAC, enclosure, and electrical vendors and suppliers to evaluate options and select the best engineered systems for each specific project. Communicate and coordinate closely with the broader engineering team to align designs, resolve issues, and maintain project schedules. Keep the engineering leadership informed of design issues, schedule impacts, risks, and proposed resolutions throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate with electrical engineering team members to clarify electrical requirements and spacing needs for HVAC equipment and related systems. Respond to questions from the integrated manufacturing production and operations teams to support smooth fabrication, installation, and commissioning. Contribute to the innovation and continuous improvement of modular building HVAC designs by proposing new ideas, approaches, and solutions. Discuss design concepts, potential improvements, and technical challenges with engineering leadership to refine standards and practices. Essential Skills Proven experience as a mechanical engineer with a strong focus on HVAC design and mechanical engineering principles. Demonstrated experience in HVAC system design for buildings or modular structures, including equipment selection and layout. Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating, modifying, and reviewing mechanical, electrical, and general arrangement drawings. Proficiency in Revit for mechanical and HVAC design, coordination, and documentation. Experience acting as a project manager or leading junior engineers on engineering projects. Ability to perform and review heat load calculations to support proper HVAC equipment sizing and selection. Familiarity with CFD analysis for evaluating HVAC performance and ensuring designs meet thermal and airflow requirements. Strong understanding of national and local codes and standards related to HVAC and electrical systems. Excellent communication skills for leading meetings, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and answering technical questions. Ability to coordinate effectively with vendors and suppliers to evaluate technical options and select appropriate systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a mechanical engineer with specific experience in HVAC design and mechanical engineering. Experience in construction environments or projects involving building systems and modular structures. Project management experience, including planning, coordination, and communication with internal and external stakeholders. Experience working with integrated manufacturing or modular building operations is beneficial. Ability to think creatively and propose innovative HVAC design solutions for modular buildings.
