Job Title:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher - HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing
Exemption Status:
Exempt Reports to: Principal, Phillip Saffel, CTE Director, Sarah Allen

Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Career and Technical Education (CTE) related to HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing systems. Enable students to develop competencies, technical skills, and industry certifications necessary for employment, postsecondary education, or advanced training in skilled trades.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university OR equivalent industry experience as required by SBEC for CTE certification Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate CTE Trades & Industry certification OR eligible for alternative certification Industry certifications (preferred), such as: HVAC (EPA 608, NATE, or equivalent) Electrical (Journeyman/Master Electrician license preferred) Plumbing (Journeyman/Master Plumber license preferred)
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of verified work experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related skilled trades Experience working with high school-aged students preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and plumbing systems Ability to teach both theory and hands-on technical skills Knowledge of safety standards (OSHA, local/state codes) Ability to manage a lab/shop environment safely and effectively Strong classroom management and organizational skills Ability to integrate academic and technical instruction Familiarity with industry certification standards and testing Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies:
Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with TEKS for CTE courses Provide hands-on instruction in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs Prepare students for industry certifications and career readiness
Classroom Management:
Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom/lab environment Enforce safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies
Program Management:
Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials Coordinate with industry partners for internships, job shadowing, and guest speakers Support Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) (e.g., SkillsUSA) Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Assessment:
Evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments Track student competencies and certification readiness Maintain accurate records of student achievement
Communication:
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and administrators Participate in ARD/504 meetings as needed Collaborate with other teachers and staff
Professional Growth:
Participate in professional development and industry training Stay current with emerging technologies and trade practices
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students in classroom, lab, and off-campus learning experiences
