Job Title:
Maintenance Engineer Job Description This role focuses on performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on food processing equipment in a refrigerated manufacturing facility. You will work on both mechanical and electrical systems, including breaking down machinery for cleaning and supporting equipment startup. The position requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills and the ability to support high-production operations through consistent, reliable maintenance. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on food processing equipment and plant machinery to minimize downtime and ensure consistent production. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on equipment, including diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions. Break down machinery for cleaning and sanitation and reassemble equipment to ensure safe and efficient startup. Use electrical troubleshooting skills on control voltages from 24V up to 480V, including three-phase systems, to identify and resolve faults. Read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams to trace issues and guide repairs. Diagnose electrical problems using appropriate tools, explain the troubleshooting process, and complete repairs to restore equipment to proper operation. Maintain and repair mechanical systems such as pneumatics, power transmission components, pulleys, chains, sprockets, drives, motors, conveyors, belts, bearings, and gears. Support plant operations by working extended shifts of 10-12 hours and being available 6-7 days per week as needed to meet production demands. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times to maintain food safety and product quality. Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and production staff to prioritize work orders and coordinate equipment downtime. Use both basic and specialty tools to perform maintenance tasks safely and efficiently. Assist with equipment startup after cleaning, maintenance, or repair to verify proper operation and address any issues. Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections as required by plant procedures. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while working in a refrigerated food manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Maintenance experience performing repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and machines in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Ideally at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial mechanic or maintenance technician role. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills on control voltage systems from 24V up to 480V, including three-phase power. Ability to trace electrical issues on machinery and clearly explain specific troubleshooting and repair examples. Ability to walk through electrical diagnosing and troubleshooting steps, including which tools were used and how the issue was repaired. Experience or familiarity with control voltage systems, including 24V and three-phase up to 480V. Mechanical experience with pneumatics, power transmission, pulleys, chains, sprockets, drives, motors, conveyors, belts, bearings, and gears. Ability and willingness to work 10-12 hour days and be available 6-7 days per week as needed. Good employment tenure and a stable work history. Comfort working in a refrigerated food manufacturing plant while following GMPs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Food manufacturing maintenance experience. Experience working under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Experience with machine maintenance in a food processing environment. Exposure to or experience with PLCs. Welding and fabricating skills. Ability to adapt to changing production demands and support overtime when required. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a food manufacturing plant that operates in a refrigerated environment, requiring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) every day. The facility currently operates on a 5-6 day workweek, with the expectation that maintenance staff may support extended coverage as needed.
Available shifts include:
a 1st shift from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with flexibility to start earlier if needed; a 2nd shift from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; and a 3rd shift from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. All shifts may offer opportunities for overtime. You will work 10-12 hour days and may be scheduled 6-7 days per week during peak demand. The company provides both basic and specialty tools required for the job, and you may bring your own basic tools if you choose. The environment is production-focused, safety-conscious, and oriented around maintaining high standards of cleanliness and equipment reliability in a refrigerated food processing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
