The role combines engineering knowledge with maintenance, project management, and operational oversights
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance and Reliability Oversee maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facility equipment. Ensure HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air, fire protection, and other utility systems operate properly. Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Troubleshoot facility-related equipment failures and coordinate repairs. Capital Projects and Improvements Plan and manage facility expansion, renovation, and construction projects. Coordinate contractors, architects, and vendors. Develop project budgets, schedules, and cost estimates. Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Safety and Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and local building codes. Support facility safety initiatives and audits. Manage permits and inspections. Coordinate emergency preparedness and business continuity plans. Utilities and Energy Management Monitor utility consumption and costs. Identify opportunities for energy savings and sustainability improvements. Manage facility infrastructure such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, and water treatment systems. Budget Management Develop and manage facility operating and capital budgets. Control maintenance and repair expenditures. Evaluate vendor contracts and negotiate services. Continuous Improvement Implement reliability and efficiency improvements. Analyze facility performance metrics. Recommend upgrades to improve productivity, safety, and cost effectiveness. Typical Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, or Facilities Engineering. Experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, commercial buildings, or construction. Knowledge of maintenance systems, project management, and regulatory requirements. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. In a Manufacturing Environment For a company such as a coatings manufacturer, a Facilities Engineer would typically oversee: Plant utilities (steam, compressed air, chilled water, electrical distribution). Building maintenance and facility infrastructure. Environmental and safety compliance related to facility operations. Capital improvement projects. Contractor management. Energy reduction and sustainability initiatives. Support for production operations by ensuring reliable facility services. The position often serves as the bridge between Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, and external contractors to maintain a safe and efficient manufacturing facility.
