Job Title:
Engineering Technician Job Description This Engineering Technician role focuses on processing and preparing powders and battery electrodes in a research and development laboratory environment. The position supports the fabrication and testing of battery-related components by following standard operating procedures, accurately documenting work, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. The technician contributes to technical experiments, assists engineers, and helps maintain laboratory equipment and materials to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. Responsibilities Process and prepare powders and battery electrodes in accordance with established procedures and quality standards. Document material handling and electrode preparation activities using travelers and standard operating procedure (SOP) documents, and enter data into the database system. Assist with or independently operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in powder processing, electrode fabrication, and cell component preparation. Support procurement and organization of cell components and related laboratory materials to ensure experiments proceed without interruption. Execute technical experiments under direction from engineers, ensuring accurate setup, operation, and data collection with minor supervision. Interpret technical requirements and translate them into clear experimental plans and execution steps. Communicate progress, technical results, and status of work clearly and regularly to supervisors and team members. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support battery electrode development, chemical and powder handling, and prototype cell fabrication activities. Maintain accurate records of test results, observations, and process parameters using MS Office programs and laboratory documentation tools. Follow all laboratory safety procedures and guidelines while working with powders, chemicals, and battery-related materials. Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to refine processes, documentation, and laboratory workflows. Support the overall direction of the team by providing strong execution of assigned responsibilities and helping to move projects forward. Essential Skills At least 1 year of work experience in a hands-on technical position within a research and development laboratory environment. Experience working with materials in a laboratory setting, preferably related to batteries, powders, or chemical handling. Familiarity with battery electrodes, chemical and powder handling, and cell component processes. Proficiency using MS Windows and MS Office software, including the ability to document travelers, test results, and SOPs. Ability to accurately document laboratory work, including material handling and electrode preparation, in both written and digital formats. Capability to work in a moisture-controlled dry room environment. Strong communication skills that enable effective collaboration with cross-functional teams. Ability to comprehend technical directions and execute experiments with minor supervision in support of engineers. Skill in interpreting technical requirements and converting them into planned actions and experimental execution. Demonstrated sense of ownership and responsibility for assigned tasks and laboratory work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Work experience specifically related to battery electrodes, chemical and powder handling, and cell component processing is a plus. Experience with prototype lithium-ion or similar cell fabrication is advantageous. Prior experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment used for materials processing or battery testing is beneficial. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, documentation, and laboratory materials. Ability to support team objectives by aligning with project direction and contributing to overall progress. Comfort taking initiative within defined guidelines to support engineers and laboratory projects. Work Environment This role is based in a research and development laboratory environment focused on battery materials and electrode processing. Work takes place in a moisture-controlled dry room, requiring comfort working in a controlled atmosphere around powders, chemicals, and battery-related components. The position relies on laboratory equipment for powder processing, electrode preparation, and cell component handling, as well as a computer running MS Windows and MS Office for documentation and data entry. New team members can expect an initial ramp-up period of approximately one and a half weeks to become familiar with procedures, equipment, and documentation systems. The work environment emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, clear communication, and strong support for shared project goals, with a professional and safety-conscious culture. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
