Job Title:
Lab Engineer II Job Description Join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team focused on creating the next generation of AI-powered wearable devices. As a Lab Engineer II, you will work with research scientists, hardware and software engineers, and cross-functional teams to develop and operate advanced capture systems that support AI research. Your expertise will contribute to understanding and modeling the physical world through innovative wearable technology. Responsibilities Conduct data capture sessions, data annotations, data processing, and quality assurance using both commercial and proprietary software and hardware. Support and maintain capture labs to ensure seamless operations. Assemble, debug, and verify capture systems by collaborating with hardware engineers, motion capture vendors, and internal teams. Test existing capture systems comprehensively to ensure accuracy and correctness, identifying and isolating sources of error. Provide technical feedback on system quality, stability, and output effectiveness. Create milestones and timelines to facilitate project management. Identify and escalate project blockers, working with researchers and lab managers to resolve issues. Produce detailed technical documentation for capture systems. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience. Proficiency in both Linux and Windows operating systems, including command line usage. Experience in a production capture setting, with multi-camera systems, depth sensors, and IMUs. Skills in debugging, profiling, and troubleshooting software and hardware issues. Experience in joint hardware/software design, development, and integration. Hands-on and creative problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach. Curiosity and adaptability in learning new technologies. Effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications 5+ years experience with capture systems. Experience with distributed systems or cloud services. Proficiency in scripting and automation, such as Python and shell scripts. Familiarity with open source software. Experience in fault or failure mode analysis. Knowledge of camera synchronization and real-time systems. Experience in system development from concept to deployment. Skills in working with 3D printers and rapid prototyping. Work Environment This is a fully onsite, lab-based role requiring hands-on system interaction in a collaborative and cross-functional team culture. You will work in a fast-paced environment that supports high-volume capture operations, maintaining standard business hours with project-driven priorities. Close coordination with researchers, engineers, and program stakeholders is essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Sausalito, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
