Job Description

Job Title:
Hardware Engineer Job Description The Hardware Engineer will design, develop, and sustain embedded electronic systems used in electro‑mechanical fire protection products. The role focuses heavily on schematic capture and PCB design in Altium, component selection, and support for both new product development and legacy hardware platforms. The engineer will collaborate closely with firmware and mechanical teams to deliver reliable, field‑proven solutions that directly support public safety and long‑term product performance. Responsibilities + Design and develop electronic hardware from requirements through production, including schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium. + Perform component selection based on electrical performance, environmental conditions, and lifecycle requirements. + Support new product development initiatives as well as obsolescence management and sustainment of legacy hardware platforms. + Design and integrate analog sensor interfaces, power regulation circuits, and digital logic circuits. + Develop and maintain hardware for systems utilizing simple microcontrollers and mixed‑signal designs. + Interface with motor control systems and collaborate with external firmware teams as needed to ensure seamless system integration. + Support RF‑based communication hardware used in product controllers, including RF transceivers and wireless control elements. + Participate in design reviews, hardware testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities to ensure robust and reliable designs. + Provide clear documentation to support manufacturing, testing, and long‑term product support across the hardware lifecycle. + Contribute to continuous improvement of existing designs and processes to enhance reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability. Essential Skills + At least 5 years of hands‑on hardware engineering experience. + Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB design in Altium. + Proven circuit design and embedded hardware development. + Experience working with microcontrollers and mixed‑signal designs, with a strong emphasis on analog circuitry. + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience in a closely related field. + Ability to take hardware designs from initial requirements through production release and lifecycle support. + Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware issues in embedded systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience writing code or scripts for hardware testing and validation. + Exposure to or experience with motor control systems. + RF communication experience, including RF transceivers and wireless control hardware. + Familiarity with industrial or ruggedized electronic products and their environmental and reliability requirements. + Experience participating in formal design reviews and validation processes. + Strong documentation skills to support manufacturing, testing, and long‑term maintenance. Work Environment This is an onsite role that requires being local to the facility to enable close coordination with cross‑functional teams, including firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing personnel. The work environment centers on developing and supporting electro‑mechanical fire protection products that serve critical public safety applications. The position offers hands‑on involvement with hardware from concept through production and lifecycle support, including work in both office and lab settings with access to typical electronic design and test equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Elkhart, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
