View More Jobs Electronic Controls Hardware Design Engineer III Indianapolis, IN, United States Be the First to Apply Job Description The Electronic Controls Hardware Design Engineer III is responsible for the electrical design of embedded microprocessor based electronic controls for HVAC and water heating products including requirements, design, qualification, and life cycle support. Will work to implement and extend a common controls platform strategy within Rheem. This is a key position on the electronic controls team within Rheem's Advanced Technology Integration organization, providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem's Water Heating, Air Conditioning, Friedrich, HTPG, Eemax, Raypak, Intergas and IBC business units. This position will serve our Advanced Technology Integration Division , located in Indianapolis, IN (Onsite) . Responsibilities Work with systems engineering, product engineering, and marketing to capture electronic controls requirements for specific HVAC and water heating applications. Develop controls designs with associated circuits, schematics, design analysis, bill of materials, assembly drawings, and other required documentation using common ECAD and other design tools. Collaborate with cross functional teams through direct interactions and team meetings in developing and translating new concepts into applications. Develop design concepts or models, oversee prototype construction, and conduct performance testing to determine practical feasibility of concepts. Develop performance and qualification test methods, coordinate the implementation of experiments, and evaluate test results. Lead and participate in formal design reviews of electronic controls requirements, schematics, layouts, as well as FMEA, DFM, DFT, and other related analyses. Prepare and support the review and release of formal requirements, design, and qualification documentation. Work with contract manufacturers through Rheem intermediaries to prepare for product builds, including review of design documentation and testing requirements and overseeing technical aspects of qualification builds. Continue to develop professionally. Represent company as requested in technical societies and keep the company advised of pertinent developments, new concepts, and opportunities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Minimum 5 years of related experience Experience with electronic controls including analog and digital circuit design, prototyping, qualifying, and commercialization planning. Experience in design and supervision of the construction of first prototypes of new design concepts Experience with electronic analysis methodologies and associated instrumentation Experience in analyzing and interpreting technical procedures and government/agency regulations (UL, CSA, CE, FCC, etc.) Experience in cost analysis of electronic controls and designing to meet cost targets. Able to work successfully with multiple departments such as R D, marketing, manufacturing, service engineering, suppliers, and customers. Technical knowledge of product design and failure analysis Working knowledge of statistical methods and/or Design-of-Experiments (DOE) Familiarity with practices of wireless engineering (i.e., circuits and systems, electronics, digital systems, electromagnetics, and communication systems)
  • Familiarity with multiple communications media and protocol such as wired, wireless, optic, CAN, BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote Must possess and demonstrate proficiency in the following competencies: Ethics/Integrity Accountability Adaptability/Flexibility Dependability Teamwork People Skills Communication (clearly communicate technical information to all audiences) Problem solving
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree Experience with control designs utilizing Renesas RX and RA cores or related microcontrollers, RS-485 communication, LCDs, Bluetooth and/or cellular communications, low power, and analog circuitry. Experience utilizing a formal Product Development Process Experience in schematic capture, design, analysis and PCB layout with Altium or OrCAD ECAD tools Experience in performing radiated & conducted emissions/susceptibility testing, and results analysis.
