Job Title:
Hardware Integration Engineer Job Description A rapidly growing and highly innovative autonomous vehicle company in Ann Arbor is seeking a Hardware Integration Engineer to support the integration of cutting-edge autonomy software into OEM vehicle platforms. This role combines hands-on hardware engineering, vehicle systems integration, and cross-functional collaboration with software, test, and OEM engineering teams. This position is ideal for someone excited to work at the intersection of embedded hardware, automotive electronics, and next-generation autonomous driving technology. Responsibilities Serve as the primary technical interface between the autonomy software team and the OEM's vehicle engineering team. Integrate autonomy-related software, compute hardware, sensors, and supporting electronics into an OEM vehicle platform. Perform system-level hardware bring-up, wiring, connector/harness interfacing, and electrical troubleshooting. Validate hardware-software interactions through bench testing, in-vehicle testing, and functional checks. Support configuration, installation, and verification of compute ECUs, network interfaces (CAN, Ethernet), and sensor systems (camera, radar, LiDAR, etc.). Work with OEM stakeholders to ensure alignment with vehicle electrical architecture, power distribution guidelines, and packaging constraints. Participate in Agile development cycles for feature deployment, debugging, and regression validation. Document integration plans, wiring diagrams, verification results, and hardware/software interface requirements. Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, functional safety, validation, and program management teams to ensure seamless system performance. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with a strong electrical focus, or equivalent technical field. 3-7+ years of experience in automotive hardware integration, embedded hardware, vehicle systems, or related engineering roles. Hands-on experience with vehicle electrical systems, harnessing, ECUs, and hardware bring-up. Strong proficiency with tools such as CANalyzer/CANoe, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data acquisition/logging systems. Ability to understand and troubleshoot communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet). Experience working with prototype vehicles, development mule builds, or advanced engineering platforms. Comfortable working on-vehicle and supporting in-garage and in-field testing. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
