Summary:
Responsible for designing and developing the hardware for microcontrollers based on building automation, control systems, and associated ancillary devices. Working directly with customers and suppliers to ensure compliance with control requirements.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with embedded project engineers to design schematics for microcontroller-based building automation (analog and digital) and control systems to meet customer requirements and in testing developed products based on those schematics. Produces printed circuit board layouts for microcontroller-based systems using through both hole and surface mount devices. Works closely with contract manufactures to ensure design is production ready and quality is maintained. Works closely with purchasing to evaluate compatible component cross matches or component substitutions to reduce lead times or production delays due to availability or EOL situations. Collaborates with the testing department to assess and develop test methods to assist with validation and quality control checks. Monitors for and troubleshoots failure tendencies in production and after product delivery. Develops product packaging, in 3D environments, to meet various installation requirements in heated, ventilated, air-conditioned, and uncontrolled environments. Develops shipping packaging and procedures to ensure reliable product protection during shipping. Manages time with minimal oversight on multiple concurrent projects. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with company policies which include confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations. Advances professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, studying new and advanced programming techniques, reviewing professional publications, and utilizing web based resources. Performs maintenance work and updates on existing designs and layouts. Assists embedded project engineers as required on specific projects. Keeps familiar with current certification standards (UL, Title 24, etc.) and verifies products pass and maintain certification. Assists test department in developing test procedures and test fixtures. Assists Sales Marketing with developing technical documentation and specifications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (B.
A. / B. S.
) from four-year college or university; and four years related experience and/or training; bachelor's degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Communicates effectively in written and spoken form. Exhibits good decision making and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills. Works with minimal supervision. Works effectively in a team environment. Math aptitude Knowledge and understanding of mechanical design and spatial reasoning in 3D Design Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical or electronic systems, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance, relays and the like. Digital multi-meter Oscilloscope Wave/frequency generator Soldering/De-soldering HI-POT tester Electronic Load Ability to design and work on digital and analog circuitry including AC/DC power supplies. Ability to design and work with microcontroller systems and other digital systems. Ability to use a 2D-3D design program like Altium to develop designs.
Work Environment:
Lift up to 10lbs. Sit for up to 85 percent of work hours. Close vision, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color. Occasional travel is expected for this position. This is subject to change according to business needs.
